So I play the powerball often, and I always play the same numbers. I have 2 sets of numbers on a card and I walk in the store, hand them my card, they print my tickets for 4 (2 weeks) of drawings at a time. I say often because sometimes I forget to get my tickets. I always think about how depressing it would be if I forgot to get the tickets and my numbers hit. So for those of you that play the same numbers all the time, what would you do if your numbers hit, but you forgot to get your ticket for that drawing? I know I’m not the only one that plays the same numbers.
I know, only trashy people buy lotto tickets.

I can’t remember the last time I purchased a Lotto ticket. I would start keeping track of how much you spend on the lottery tickets

Not trashy people, stupid people. Lotto is a stupid tax. Expected return is less than the cost to play. It’s impossible to be profitable. Stop doing it, dumbass.

You realize some people play because it's fun?

Not everything you do in life needs an expected return.

This is true.

Good example is my dad. He is an ot baller, yet when the Powerball gets up to the big jackpots, he will go buy a couple hundred tickets for the thrill of it.

I only k ow one person that hit the powerball. He bought ten quick pick tickets for that jackpot. He said that usually never plays but the jackpot was so high he said what the hell.

True but is the percentage differential from my 0% chance and your 0.000034% chance worth spending the money you spend over a year or 2?

Did you know your odds of making 3 consecutive holes in one are better than winning the jackpot on a powerball drawing?

I think you are the only person I have heard of who would know the winning numbers without having a ticket.

I play occasionally (jackpot > $225MM) and never know the winning numbers I just scan the tickets at some point when I am grabbing something from the gas station.

A story I was told or read years ago:

A middle aged lady (I believe in Florida) who had two children bought the same lotto numbers for every drawing. It was a combination of her children's birthdates and maybe hers or another important date to her. So others were aware of the numbers she always played - especially her children.

Anyway, the lady gets married on a Saturday. At the reception she tells her children and new husband that with the big event she had forgotten to get her lottery tickets and they would have to stop on the way to the honeymoon and get them.

I think it was a couple hours into the trip that her and her husband had car trouble - flat tire or engine trouble. It had started pouring rain and was not a perfect finale to an otherwise very good day. Her and her new beau decide to break their trip in two and get a hotel room for the night and continue the trip the next day.

The next morning she is woken up by texts she is receiving. She starts to read them and they are congratulating her on her GREAT DAY. She's thinking "if they only knew about what happened after the wedding".

Then she gets a phone call from her daughter who is beside herself with excitement. The mom tells her to calm down that it wasn't the first time she had been married and she had just seen her less than 12 hours ago and she wasn't that excited then.

The daughter starts laughing and asks her "you don't even know yet, do you?" The mom is like "know what?" The daughter tells her that yesterday may be the best day of her life. Not only did she get married to the guy she loved BUT HER LOTTERY NUMBERS FINALLY CAME UP!!!

The mom was like "OH shite!!!"

With the car troubles she had forgotten.

3 in a row is not all they make it out to be. After 2, you sor'ta expect the third.

This happened to me. I forgot to play the numbers I always play and damned if they didn't hit. Afterwards my wife divorced me and took my kids. So it goes without saying, it's the best thing that ever happened to me.

I would stop playing those numbers. I don't think they have ever had a duplicate set of numbers, so statistically your are killing your chances.

I've always heard it said, "The lotto is a tax on people who can't do math."

So Kim Jong Il should’ve been playing the powerball?
