I buy the majority of my things used...either FB Marketplace or Ebay. But typically it's a designer item, so I know the quality/value before I purchase.

I had to read this again and see who posted it. Thought I might have posted in a thread that got revived and was reading something I wrote.

I made out bedroom furniture (bed, dresser and night stands), kitchen table, end table, entertainment center and entry way table.

I got tired of beds that squeaked and made all kinds of racket when you so much as moved an inch. Always woke up the wife and dog when you roll over. I got my bed super quiet. Added under bed drawers and ditched the box spring, the dresser has good sized drawers (not too big but not too small). I built in an obscure drawer for storing a few guns. It's taller than normal store furniture. The night stands and bed are slightly taller than box store furniture as well. It's all solid wood and no particle board.

2K dining tables are trash. Anything nice these days is way more expensive.

You are aware that there's a gradient scale to quality, right? At $2K you are absolutely NOT receiving a "trash" dining table. This is ridiculous. I've had perfectly fine dining tables which cost me less than $1K, and I am saying this as one who made a significant investment ($12K) in a high quality one when we built our house 5 years ago. While we love it, it does not make any of the cheaper ones from our past "trash." It's simply higher quality wood and design. That's it.

Take your pretentiousness somewhere else.

Have you bought one under 2K recently?

Most are trash. They are made super poorly. From bad finish, to construction, to materials. For less than 2k you are most likely going to get something that looks nice, but is made of paper mache and held together with staples basically.

KBB private party value of that is $14676-$16445 if it's in good condition. Not bad.

Just bought a Yamaha receiver from a resale shop for $60, brand new they were $300 and eBay has them for $120, massive win since my Onkyo receiver shite the bed.

I build a lot of my own furniture but with over $100k in machines and tools I doubt I will ever come close to breaking even especially when I mainly work in walnut and maple and I am a sucker for highly figured wood.

Things I will buy used:

watches
vehicles
woodworking machines Euro and old American iron
Some high-end AV stuff but not TVs or HT receivers the technology changes too quickly on those
boats

That is pretty much it.

Oh, I didn't spend anywhere near that much and most tools were basic I already had. It was farmhouse, so not overly fancy.

Standard table saw, borrowed a planner from a friend, drill, palm sander, miter saw.

Only thing I bought was a plunge router, pocket hole jig, and some pipe clamps and pipe. I think about 300 dollars I spent on things I didn't already have for normal stuff. I basically broke even once I made the kitchen table and the rest was just wood cost. I didn't even end up using the plunge router on any of it but have used it to make alot of other stuff since.

Now way I'm buying pre-farted furniture for any price
End table/coffee table for 1/3 price? Sure
Used toyota with 30k miles for decent price? Absolutely

I am a buy once type of guy... I'd rather pay full price for premium options that lasts years beyond the competition, than pay for used garbage 2 or 3 times... if it takes me 6 months of research, then so be it... buy once for a lifetime or settle for cheap crap every 3 years.. in the end you pay more for cheap shite
