I know a lot of State grads and most have been above-average and some very intelligent. It’s a solid university. On the other hand, the majority of Ole Miss grads I’ve worked with have been lazy and not very bright.

My experience is the same. People go to Ole miss to party, they go to State to get an education.

I’m glad to see the positive reviews. I have several extended family members who graduated from there but it’s been decades ago. We get mailings from them every couple of weeks it seems for my high schooler. We have been looking at schools in a different region but may need to take a visit there after reading this thread.

Yeah and State is just so superior in the academic and shitass world.

Yes and they are both Ole Miss fans when the Egg Bowl comes around. Y’all had a turd of a HC that turned them totally off when they were younger.

(And agreed upon point as well)

I’ve met some good engineers from State.

Athletically, all of State fans realize no matter how good things are going for them, eventually Lucy will pull the football away and they’ll screw things up.

Their football highlight of 130 years is beating Bama 6-3 in 1980 to screw up a potential NC three-peat for Bama.

ETA: I also agree that it’s got an Aggie light vibe to it.

Speaking of Aggies:

I wouldn't hesitate to send a child there, or go there myself. I have heard numerous people, including my dad and my best friend's dad say the two schools are similar with Auburn being a little bigger. Both offer strong agriculture, vet medicine, engineering, and other hard science programs and State apparently has a great meteorology program.

My friend's dad was a researcher for the USDA, based out of Auburn until late in his career, when they transferred him to State. They lived there a few years and moved back to Auburn when they retired. He spoke very positively about Starkville and State.

In my one trip to watch Auburn and State play, I liked the people I met and had a good time.

Yep, two of the premier meteorology programs in the country. I considered going to MSU to study meteorology but decided that wasn’t my path.

If I hadn’t been such a tard with math, I’d have gone into meteorology but instead I sell insurance and weatherwatch as a hobby now .

My niece married a guy with a degree from Mississippi State. He works as a salesman for a pharmaceutical company. The job pays well. His major offered a mentorship program at the time he attended that he credits for helping him find a good job after graduation.

A recent scientific journal article in Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society reports that one-third of all on-air weather broadcasters have training from the MSU Department of Geosciences program.

“The MSU broadcast [meteorology] program alone has nearly as many graduates as the four largest traditional programs combined,” revealed the BAMS article published last month.

The BAMS article states, “The Pennsylvania State University, Florida State University and the University of Oklahoma are traditionally three of the largest meteorology programs in the country.

State is good to great in these departments

1. Agricultural
2. Engineering
3. Vet School
4. Architectural
5. Business
6. Forestry
7. Turf Management
8. Aquaculture

However if you want to pursue law or medical I wouldn’t go there

Was just there this past Monday for a tour with my high school senior. It is very impressive and I would 100% let my child go there. Right now it is our number one school and LSU is probably third. They are very competitive monetarily trying to get out of state kids.

Like most SEC schools, including my own, they overrate their programs. But no doubt they’re adequate for what people in those fields want to do in this region. I think being in Mississippi is the reason OM and MSU aren’t going to experience the massive spikes other SEC schools have of late. Nothing you can do about that.

Every MSU alum I know is reasonably smart and all around personable, FWIW
