It would have just shot air out, like nerf gun with no ammo.

Not true. My wife went through hell and back 2 weeks ago giving birth to our daughter at Woman’s. She wound up in the AICU for a few days. The nursery took the baby for the first 2 of 3 nights we were there. They would bring her in during the day, but took her back at night.
Obviously this was extenuating circumstances, but nevertheless it happened.
The people at Woman’s are incredible though!! Can’t say enough good things about them.

Give the baby to the nursery for the 1st night,
That shite dont fly anymore
The nurses will tell you to frick off if you are at a top hospital
"Baby friendly" designation is worth too much for them

Congrats dude! I didn't read 5 pages, but I'd just tell you to get plenty of sleep before y'all go. I feel like with my second one we never got a chance to sleep with the dang nurses coming in every two hours or less at all hours of the night to check this and that and give shots, check on my wife after c-section, etc. And the days of sending the baby to the nursery are done, so the baby will be in your room with you the whole time. Maybe if your wife delivers naturally it won't be so crazy & you'll be able to sleep a little, but I'm just going by my experience.
Tell the little dude welcome to Icelandia when he arrives.

I saw that one of the first few replies was just to go home and freshen up. If you guys have a complication, your baby is taken to NICU, and you're just there with your wife, then I highly doubt you'll be bopping home for a refreshing afternoon. Trust me. I know.

Yeah, they'll only take the baby if there are issues I think. They told us it stays with us.
I'll see what I can do though.
If your wife labors for a long time, they'll take the baby to the nursery, at least for a little while.

They said assuming no complications, baby and wife were doing skin to skin
They said if mom is exhausted after long labor, it was time for me to step up and do skin to skin
They are serious about this bullshite "Baby Friendly" crap
IMHO, it neglects the needs of the new parents completely
And thats coming from someone who works on the admin side of a hospital pushing this.....

Men don't pack hospital bags. Tell that doctor to stop insulting you as a man.

It may make me sound like a bad parent, but I didn't hate that my son went to the NICU. We got to hold him before they took him and then we were able to spend all day with him, but it was kind of nice to head back to my room to sleep while the nurses took care of him that first night. He was born at 3:30 am so by the time the next evening rolled around we were both exhausted and a night of semi-good sleep (as good as you can get in a hospital) was welcomed.
