I can only say that because he was healthy, he was just early and they take all 34 weekers to the NICU. It's not like I'm saying I'm glad he was unhealthy and sent there or something.

It's stupid and selfish. I mean, obviously her kid is fine now and maybe it was just in the NICU as a feeder/grower. I don't think I will ever be glad my kid spent time in the NICU. I would have killed to lose some extra sleep and do skin to skin or watch my wife have that option.

Are these bourbon/whiskey responses serious? First off, is that even allowed in the hospital? It just sounds so Joe Dirt and redneck...

Thats a big negative here They said assuming no complications, baby and wife were doing skin to skin

Curious, is that all hospitals in your area or just yours?

With both of ours (one in Houston, one in Tampa), we did skin to skin for a several hours. Both times around 2-3AM, they took the babies to the nursery for about 4 hours while my wife got some much needed rest.

We let our daughter go to the nursery both nights we were there since my wife wasn’t breastfeeding and we had a queen size temper-pedic bed to share.

Pretty much the last good night of rest we got until she was about 10 months old.

A lot of these people are full of shite. If your wife is breast feeding, that baby won't be leaving your room. Just try to sleep when the baby sleeps.

Also, do your best to limit visitors in the hospital. People may get offended but frick em, I'd say just allow grandparents and siblings. You're going to want to sleep while the baby is sleeping, not listen to some aunt you don't even really like talking about when her kids were born.

It may make me sound like a bad parent, but I didn't hate that my son went to the NICU. We got to hold him before they took him and then we were able to spend all day with him, but it was kind of nice to head back to my room to sleep while the nurses took care of him that first night. He was born at 3:30 am so by the time the next evening rolled around we were both exhausted and a night of semi-good sleep (as good as you can get in a hospital) was welcomed.

When did your little one get to go home?
