The only reason I think that is that he didn't kill or injury my dog, only held him down with his mouth and the owner was able to easily get him off.

An aggressive pit wandered into our back yard, no collar, no tags, and my husband found that a 22LR bounced off its head. It left and we assume another neighbor had success.

After a few seconds underwater, the pit let go.

You sure it wasn't 1 block up?

The auto repair shop on the corner of Charbonnet@St.Claude?

Yeah it was between Alabo and Charbonnet. I grew up in that area, went to school at McDonough #19 until it got integrated, shopped for lumber at Vetter to repair the old house I bought down there as an adult and ate many meals from Pete's Burger Orleans back then.

I grew up on Dauphine between Caffin and Flood St. and lived in that house from 52 until 70 after graduating high school and moving out to make my way in life at 17. I eventually wound up buying the house I grew up in when I was 23 and lived there for another 5 years.

it should be a mandatory 5 year minimum sentence that escalates based on injury. The animal should be considered a weapon so you could tack on aggravated assault, manslaughter, negligent homicide, etc.

I agree. And I also think that if an insurance company can cancel my homeowner's insurance based on certain things like the age of my roof, then they surely should be cancelling those who own pit bulls.

Grab dog from behind by scruff if the neck, straddle the dog, squeeze your legs very tight above his hip, pull up to get his front legs off the ground, jam the stick near the back of his a-hole and pry like you are opening an Oyster, continuing to pull up. When he releases keep the stick jammed in his a-hole and keep off the ground.

I tried breaking up a dog fight once. I kicked the dog and he grabbed me by the ankle. Then my wrist. Then my butt. Then my ear. It took my mom with a broom handle to stop it.

So, I would suggest at least a broom handle or an angry southern mother.

Many insurance companies have a list of what they consider dangerous dogs and it includes Pits, Boxers, Dobermans, German Shepherds, Chows, Rottweillers, Akitas and a few others that I can't recall right now.

I've broke up one pit fight, I had a full head of steam and tackled the fricker and put it in a headlock. It released, then the other dog bit me

Your mileage may vary, I was fueled by miller lite and a 21 year old testosterone level.

I tried to break up a rottweiler fight and one of the dogs latched onto my hand and wouldn't let go. I was able to pin him down with my knee/body weight and choke him out with my other hand. Definitely not recommended as it took a couple surgeries to repair my hand BUT, in a crunch, any able body male human being should be able to overpower a dog, if required.
