In no way am I kidding, I was thinking about and actually having a conversation about Roman roads this past week.

Surprisingly this is my area of expertise… concrete reinforcement… yeah the ash thing has been known for a long time

Researchers have spent decades trying to figure out the secret of this ultradurable ancient construction material
How old is this article - they have known for decades that the Romans used volcanic ash in their concrete, especially when used for underwater applications.
Now - maybe they are learning the precise mechanism by which the ash contributed that quality.
I did not know the chemical cause & this did enlighten me on that.

What's even crazier is that we lost not just this method but all ability to make any concrete for a very long time.

You can blame the Church for the loss.
One of the dumbest things I ever saw posted on this site and that says a lot.
The Church wanted cathedrals to last. You know who wanted to keep the knowledge a secret? Contractors who already knew and didn't want more competition.

When people talk about lost knowledge of the ancient world, it’s stuff like this that is meant . This is one of probably 10,000 pieces of information and knowledge humanity has gone without until now.
** Finding out this is a 2 year old discovery. Still cool though but once again, we see stories recycled for the sake of clicks.

They killed Jesus, so he could die for our sins

I have been to Pompeii. What an amazing place to visit. It’s interesting to see how advanced of a civilization they were. What interest me more is the Egyptian artifacts, like pots, they find that are mathematically perfect and only advanced tools of today can replicate their perfection. Makes you think there may have been some advanced species back in the day.

They used the ash because they had a lot of it laying around .
The Romans shipped ash from Naples all over the Mediterranean and to Egypt and Turkey. It wasn’t just “lying around.”

Though Greece and Rome occupied and knew ancient Egypt before Muslim expansion, Egypt goes so far back in prehistory who knows who built what. What they did with hard stone is unbelievable.

Okay, apart from the aqueduct and the sanitation, which, I'll give you.
Numerals? Never mind, the only thing they're good for is fancy clocks, and Super Bowls, and not even Super Bowls.
