Zune>>>>Ipod

Especially for allowing you to pay a monthly subscription and be able to download anything you wanted.

It laid the groundwork for apps like Spotify, and was still better than Spotify IMO.

Lotus 123 was far superior to Excel. Lotus no longer exists.

Once the pron industry settled on VHS, Beta-Max was doomed.

Old VHS Stores
Blockbuster/Hastings
Netflix
Redbox
Streaming

There was a while where I justified saving $3 to say “hey, my Redbox is only a mile away, I’d rather pay $1.99 and drive than pay $4.99 for a streaming rental.”

I guess Covid killed that. Not that I minded going to the Redbox but nothing good came out for 6+ months.

A thread similar to this came to my mind in the shower yesterday.

We remodeled this last year and added a new master bathroom. My wife has tried all sorts of things to make our shower more appealing with soap dishes, ways to hang wash rags, a stand. Just dumb stuff. I had been out of town and took my first shower when back. I noticed that she had just resigned to going back to loofas. It’s the superior way to spread minimal amount of soap to the maximum amount of area and they haven’t made anything better in the last 30 years.

Griswold and Wagnerware come to mind. They made excellent cast iron cookware.

A lot of superior computers fell by the wayside because of the IBM PC. I remember "upgrading" from a Radio Shack Color Computer to a PC compatible and immediately hating the 4-color graphics and lack of real sound effects. Oh, it had a really nice keyboard, though.

That piece of shite was never really redeemed until Windows 95 came out, a decade later.

Can confirm, my wayfarers were made in Italy. The prescription frames I got several months ago, made in China.

LeBlanc’s > Rouses

This is a big one. Leblanc’s had far better meats and better store brands for a lot of products. Leblanc’s seasoning blends were incredible. Their deli meats and hot food counter were better too.

Encyclopedia Brittanica to Wikipedia

I remember as a kids, we had Encyclopedia Britannica when most of my friends had World Book. When looking things up for school projects as youngster, I kind of resented it because World Book was so much simpler.

I had no idea how much better Britannica was until years later.

I kind of shudder when I think that students today mostly pull up Wikipedia when they search for information. Although it is sometimes a valuable way to locate other sources.
