What products/services did you think were superior but fell to a more dominant brand?

Is there anything that you used to use and think was the better product, but it faded away because it couldn't compete with a larger entity?

The ones that come to mind for me are both software - I though WordPefect was better than Microsoft Word. I also thought that MapQuest had some advantages over Google Maps (though both of those have kind of been made irrelevant by things like Waze).

WordPerfect is still superior to word in my mind.
Mapquest is far inferior and deserves to be where it is.

Google has owned Waze for like a decade BTW

FireWire is one.. apple greed killed it. Intel and Microsoft all but stopped supporting it even though it was superior to USB at that time. Apple was in a dire financial situation and in typical fashion tried to gouge on fees

LeBlanc’s > Rouses (debatable)

This is actually pretty difficult. Usually the better product wins out.

We were the Betamax family in the neighborhood. It was embarrassing.

Ray-ban used to use Luxottica frames made in Italy. Luxottica moved manufacturing to China.

I’ve heard Allen Edmunds quality has declined but I haven’t seen that yet.

That’s a good one. Luxottica has taken almost everything over, then moved manufacturing to China and marks some of their horribly made products up by about 500%.

Woot.com got bought by Amazon.

Hasn't fallen completely, but was not an improvement.

SiriusXM college radio is now ESPNU college radio. I liked the older version better.
Fir instance, they ran a good Saturday morning pre game show, nit they just air audio of ESPNs College Game Day show.
