My first big screen tv (60"+) was a Sony Bravia that used LCOS which was an alternative tech to DLP back in the day. I don't remember the cost but it was very pricey ($3-4k probably). After a few years, the light engine or whatever started failing.
It was almost impossible to find a replacement part and would have been expensive to repair anyway. To Sony's credit, even though it was out of warranty they worked with me. They offered a lower end model replacement for free and gave me options to buy better models at a significant discount.

Jeff Immelt burned down what Jack Welch built in a decade.

Not saying Jeff was the best, but Jack created the mess the parachuted out before the chickens came home to roost.

I remember paying $1,000 for a 1 gigabyte hard drive in 1995 or so. At the time I thought I would never run out of room. Adjusted for inflation that's over $2,000 now. You can't even buy a flash drive smaller than maybe 4 or 8 gigabytes now and they cost a couple of bucks...

I bought an 80 inch Sharp LED TV in 2009 for something like $7,000 or $8,000. I did not think it could ever get any better. That thing was a beast and pretty damn thick. It was 1080p and actually pretty grainy, especially if you got too close. I sold my house with that thing still mounted to the wall back in 2016...

LED bulbs. 20,000 hours my arse. 10 bucks a pop. I bet I spent 500-600 bucks retrofitting the house.
GPS for the car. 600 or so for some garmin.
A big arse kindle scribe or whatever for 800.

I was at GE. Welch was revered. Immelt was a disaster. Alstom, was one of many gigantic mistakes. Flannery was a fill in. Larry Culp is doing ok.

I bought one of those Bill Dance’s crawfish baits for like $10 when he made them stock pond famous. That was years ago when it was unheard of to spend more than $2-$3 on a lure. Never caught a fish on that damn thing.
The banjo minnow for me. Used my dad’s credit card, I got an arse whippin but never catching a fish on the damn things was the serious hurt.

It blows my mind when people talk about how expensive early tech was like computers and VHS and then you think about inflation on top of that. $2500 for a computer today is still a very nice computer. $5500 for a tv today would buy maybe the nicest thing on the market. Crazy to think how high prices were even compared to today and the dollar was worth more then as it is.
The 90s and pre 2008 was high quality of life and everything cheap except for tech. Tech was expensive
Now we get anything you could dream of tech wise for very cheap, but have a lower quality of life with average starter houses being 500k

CD player for the car. With the removable face plate of course. Couldn’t risk someone stealing my investment.
