What makes a Cadillac or Lexus better than a Chevy or Toyota?

Besides status symbols? Looking at a new Cadillac next to a new Chevy or a new Lexus next to a new Toyota of similar styles I don't see much difference.

Cadillacs have like 450 horsepower and more features than a Chevy.

Go look at the interior and get back to us

Why don't you ask if Longhorn Steakhouse is better than Golden Corral. ?

Quality of Leather, Audio, and interior components. If driving a luxury car turns you on then its money well spent. Id prob go German luxury over Caddy though.

I think that's the point.

Most of the parts are made of higher quality material.

usually general quality. better leather, interior surfaces feel more solid, etc. even two cars with the same options, the Lexus will have higher quality components than the Toyota.
Obviously speaking in generalities here.

Interiors and engine performance, generally.

Just guessing. Both use the same frame, etc, but the higher end models come with better finishings and service. For example, Lexus will treat you awesome when it comes time for a service. You make an appointment, and they take care of everything else.

Quality parts and overall service from the dealership.

The cars have more features as well such as the ability to control the stiffness of the suspension, and a better quality suspension, high quality brakes like Brembo, more powerful engines, better interior quality and more features, etc.

I can't get a naturally aspirated, high revving V-8 in my Camry. And I cat get a supercharged V-8 in my Impala.

Forget the cross-brand comparison. Go look at a Chevy base model and then the limited edition of same vehicle. That's basically your answer.

It's a little bit more than the best Toyota package is equal to the Lexus. I find the fit and finish is just a little better. I looked at the top of the line Avalon and ES350. Avalon was nice, but the interior of the ES felt higher end. Service is LEAPS AND BOUNDS better. A lot of the things included in the premium package are going to be standard in the luxury version. And when you look at the price difference, you're paying pretty much the same (limited Avalon started at 41k and the ES package with comparables was like 42.5).
Also with Lexus, they don't exactly compare model to model. The ES350 is the Avalon, the GX is the 4 runner, and the LX is the Land Cruiser, but outside of that I don't think Toyota offers anything comparable. It's not like you can compare the IS to the Camry or the RX to the highlander. They may be in the same size, but the similarities stop there.

That's his implication. He's wondering why.
