I lived in Italy... even if you spoke Italian they probably wouldn't talk to you. Italians are assholes until they know who you are.

And you have the stones to say you have to wade through nonsense posts to get real answers.

How in the world do I seem upset?

And I’m white.

It isn’t, but it’s also not completely different. Basque and Catalan are dialects, but common Spanish is similar.

Just like we call a vest a vest, Brits call it a waistcoat.

Spanish is also similar to Portuguese, and some words are similar to French.

Well, you have the good fortune that "ignorante" is pretty much a phonetic match for its English counterpart. I'm pretty sure you'll be hearing that word a lot wherever you go.

And even then, everyone who speaks Basque or Catalan speaks Spanish. They're only going to speak in those languages in front of you if they don't want you to understand what they're saying.

Did you imply it makes more sense to learn to speak Greek than Spanish? And your main point is for travel?

I’m not sure where to start on explaining why this is ridiculous. You don’t have to worry about this issue. I doubt you have the mental capacity to learn a 2nd language

What foreign country can I visit that speaks this language.

I've been to Peru, and also Venezuela before it fell apart. Beautiful countries, both.

And Chile is approaching "developed nation" status, Santiago is quite nice.

Plus, of course, Spain.

Don’t know why I had to get taught that shitty language in high school. If they want to come here they need to learn the language. Why should I have to curve my learning for a bunch of immigrants? They should curve their learning to assimilate to an ENGLISH speaking country.

So what is the point of learning this Mexican Spanish? Are you going to go to Lubbock Texas and practice it? Do you wish to talk to illegal immigrants who are living in the United States and can not talk English?

Wow, how baseless can you sound. It doesn't differ that much. There's proper ways to speak spanish as taught in school and there's "the other way" which is more slang or common growing up.

The Spanish that is taught in schools isn't "Mexican" Spanish. Other than slang, the language is not all that different in Mexico vs. Spain.
