There’s a lot of people who make sure no matter where pro-LSU things are in town, that there’s also pro Ull outweighing it. The news barely covers LSU. You just don’t pay attention. It’s definitely a thing.
If you think this means that they “loathe” LSU, then I’m not sure what to tell you
You can be a UL supporter, and not an LSU supporter while not “loathing” LSU

Much better in some ways, not as good in others.
Food is better, downtown is way better, bar scene is better, beer scene is better, arts scene is better, there’s a lot fewer giant abandoned buildings, music scene is a push at best.
Sprawl is worse, traffic is worth, crime is more spread out (better than it was in the early 90’s, but worse than early 2000’s), costs are worse, some neighborhoods are worse while others are much better, schools are a push.
It’s a mixed bag, but it is certainly a very different place that has changed tremendously over the last 13 years. Unfortunately, Kip’s not at the helm anymore and it shows.

Not in Ponchatoula. Do not come here, it is horrible. In fact I would encourage anyone that might live here and is reading this to leave and never come back.

Crime was certainly down in early 2000’s. That was a good time to be in BR (2000-2006)

You really are in denial if you don’t think there’s a lot of LSU hate there.

The last thing that’s going to affect my quality of life is what college football team others in the same city pull for

Most people that I've met from Lafayette don't care for LSU but love the Saints. I always found it odd too. It's not like we are really rivals except maybe in baseball.

No question, if you have money, New Orleans. Specifically in the newer warehouse district / business corridor of the many many newer condos under construction now. One can pretty much walk the entire area of hundred of bars and restaurants and entertainment venues. All the places under construction are very expensive however. From 1 bedroom $ 300,000 up to $ 3 million dollar condos.

Have you ever lived anywhere else?
I’ve lived in Washington DC, Los Angeles, Houston, Dallas, North Chicago, Virginia, and Atlanta.
When I finally got a job where I could live anywhere I wanted, I moved the family to Baton Rouge. It’s wonderful here, my UGA wife loves it, and my kids love it.
It’s the people.
The town is also a perfect size.
I don’t even know, I just love this town.

How long have you been working at the tourism bureau?

I have lived in all of the following and rank them as follows:
After Houston...
1. Mandeville (hands down if married)
2. Lafayette
Distant 3rd... Baton Rouge (Pros: 6 amazing Saturdays a year; Cons: crime, public schools, traffic, roads, not a great white collar economy outside of government sector)

If I had to live somewhere else than Lafayette then it would be Mandeville.

I’d live in Mandeville if I worked in Mandeville
If I had to commute to New Orleans that would be a deal breaker

Hands down its Covington/Mandeville/Abita Springs/Goodbee/Madisonville, basically West St Tammany Parish. Very low crime, Great Public Schools, great proximity to New Orleans, BR, gulf shores, OB, & the Florida panhandle.
Property taxes are high but that’s because they give a shite about public schools and properly fund them.
