I lived in Houston for 12 years, Dallas for 4, and now in Fort Worth. Dallas by far is light years better than Houston. It’s cleaner, easier to navigate, traffic isn’t complete hell like Houston, and there’s a helluva lot more to do on weekends. Don’t get me wrong, I loved living in Houston too, but Dallas living def has it beat

Uptown has changed for the worse in the last 3 or 4 years. It's not the prime place to be anymore.

Is Dallas is passing shrubs as trees?

I haven't spent much time on the ground there but every time I fly over and and in to Dallas it looks like a mcmansion hell. Also neon on buildings is not a good look.

Eh, they’re both fine.

Like most cases these days, the more money you have (in either city) the better living conditions. Sometimes people here get caught comparing Cypress with Highland Park (or Allen with West U), of course one will seem way better

Living in Dallas is like living in one big construction site.

1.) It's one of the best places in America for white collar employment.
2.) The suburban towns near Dallas offer some of the best quality of life metrics in the country (several Top500 schools, low crime, top of the line parks/recreation access to said well paying white collar jobs)
3.) It's really fun. The restaurants here beat the pants off of Louisiana in every category except for Cajun. There's great nature an hour or so away. Lots of museums and things for kids. Austin, San Antonio, Houston, and Louisiana are a day's drive away. DFW airport is the country's 2nd biggest hub and can take you anywhere in the world.

Seriously considering eating the higher COL and moving back. Things just work way better and faster there weather it's a fast food restaurant, school, store, or government office.

Top elected official in Texas’ smallest county is charged with cattle theft

Lawmen came to remote Loving County, Texas, on Friday to arrest the county judge, a former sheriff’s deputy and two ranch hands on one of Texas’ oldest crimes — cattle theft. This West Texas county, population 57 as of the last U.S. Census Bureau estimate. Spread over 671 square miles of mesquite-studded desert, Loving County has no school, no church, no grocery store and no bank. The few children who live there board the bus in the only town, Mentone (population 22), and travel about 35 miles each morning and afternoon to attend school.

This is definitely true vs. the deep south. You get most of the cultural things we like (social, friendly, semi-conservative people) without the bad aspects of southern culture

They got that giant arse WinStar casino in Oklahoma. It's like they cater totally to the Dallas crowd.

Pretty much. I love Lafayette but there's just so much more to offer in DFW economically speaking than here. My kids can always visit their grandparents or attend LSU if they want to experience Louisiana culture. My kids are finishing elementary school in a few years and I can't wait another decade of my life for Louisiana to "turn" it around.
