This is a thing in Houston also. People really think that we don’t see right through it. It’s funny. But like I said, Houston = Dallas. Same same.

We can sit and debate which suburbs are better all day. But as far as city propers go, it’s the same.

Just cities proper here…

Houston has better arts/culture and food scene. Being one of the more diverse cities in the country will do that.

Dallas feels a little less crowded and easier to get around. More of the city was “planned.” Something resembling 4 seasons at least.

Fun fact… Dallas has the country’s largest lake entirely within a city limits (White Rock). Also the largest urban forest (Trinity Forest).

Dallas is a good city; a nice place to raise a family in the city. There are a lot of neighborhoods with character and small commercial nodes interspersed within them.

It used to be really cheap city living, but those days are gone. Covid migration brought far more than normal, which was already a lot. Weekend traffic jams a regularity now.

The Dallas suburbs are mostly awful. Very sterile and boring places. Job market is always strong, big cog in the global economy. Diverse business presence too, whereas Houston is heavily tied to oil and gas.

I live in Fort Worth and have been to Dallas probably 10 times since I moved here. Granted there's not much in Fort Worth but nothing in Dallas is worth an 80 mile round trip except Microcenter.

I consider Houston part of Louisiana.

Wrong. Collin County has anything you want, all kinds of food, parks, entertainment, clean, safe, sports, etc. This take that it's somehow bad is laughable.

This is a bit contradictory but also accurate. I lived in Dallas and met plenty of people that faked being wealthy, but the few actual rich people I knew were really easygoing. The sad part is the former are the ones that drove the tone, thus the prevailing attitude that extremely conspicuous consumption was a positive trait.

My point is really that everything said about Dallas vanity is true, but it's a light hearted elitism. I don't know a ton of Dallas strivers (I know they exist in large numbers) so maybe that's the annoying contingent. We do know a fair number of generationally wealthy people (think, young couples with kids where neither parent works) - and they're kind of out there but pleasant enough.

I both agree and disagree. They're sterile and bland, I agree. But you can live quite a comfortable, safe, fun, family-oriented life there. I say that as someone who refuses to consider living in the Dallas burbs.

2). The Dallas skyline is the most underwhelming skyline in the country and it’s arguably the worst to navigate downtown

You need to get out more if you think downtown Dallas is hard to navigate. Boston would probably give you a stroke.

I have owned property in both locations. Dallas by far is a much cleaner and in my opinion safer city. If you live north of Dallas you are in a safe bubble and everything you need is there (great schools, restaurants, etc.). The infrastructure is well planned and the neighborhoods are fantastic with many amenities geared toward all different life stages. Once you live there and have all those conveniences it’s hard to imagine living somewhere else. The only negative is high property taxes which is offset with great schools and no state income tax.

Houston's economy is just as diverse.

Add together upstream and downstream, assume that pipelines, equipment manufacturing, engineering and a handful of other sectors contributed another $20 billion, and energy likely accounted for around 25 percent of GDP in ’18.

Its much less humid in Dallas so it wins on that alone.

This right here. You don't sweat when you walk outside which is a plus.

If you haven't lived in both, then you really can't comment on this intelligently. Visiting the cities is nothing like actually living there and making a life there.

Driving in Texas sucks. So I don't do it. Dallas is too big for me. I'll take Alabama over Texas.
