I actually made out pretty well on this when my last truck got totaled. It was at least a fair price I was happy with. It’s not new replacement but basically if you had to go buy the same vehicle used with all accessories and such, what would it cost you? They looked at comparable vehicles for sale in the region and came up with an average and then added value for my lift, tires, mats, etc. I did my own research and their offer was better than I was expecting.

if you have your hunting license on you, it is perfectly legal to take it home.

My wife worked in claims. They have a formula/process they use and if you can provide details or otherwise which show differently, they pay the difference.
Not all companies try to screw everyone over. Some people just don’t get everything they want.

Basically, trade-in value prior to the damage.
Wrong. ACV is the value of the vehicle just before the accident happened. Look on KBB and nada, enter options and mileage.
Then minus your deductible.

Cool, then I’ll repost. My BIL got the deer and he’s definitely licensed.

Be a kiss arse to the adjuster and bend over backwards to get any info he needs. Geico gave me 8.5k for my 12' elantra in 17 and trade in was only about 6.5-7.

Trade is irrelevant. They have to give you what it will cost you to replace the totaled car. Which is retail plus the applicable tax rate.

This! The percentage of people waiting to be offended for no legitimate reason is exponentially higher than percentage of insurance carriers trying to screw them over.

will be interesting to see if they total it. Hitting that deer flush at 65+ probably damaged a good bit of parts, but who knows?

Did you throw it in the trunk and take it home and clean it at least?
A guy I work with is from Alaska and his dad still lives there. He said people hit moose all the time and that you can apply to a wait list with the police department and they will literally call you when it is your turn and you can go and collect the moose. He said his dad had to go a 2am one time because if you miss you lose out on your spot in line.

Its basically what you could buy the same car, same year, mileage, etc. right now. So start searching and find what had in your area for sale. My friend got low balled by his insurance on his totaled vehicle. When he showed up with his research, the offer amount went up
This is how you do it. Find comparable cars in your area because they will low ball you. Fricking the masses out of a few hundred dollars on every one of their property damage claims nets insurance companies hundreds of millions of dollars in profits.
Go get ‘em and don’t back down.

Bought it online a couple of months before even dealers had demos. Still never seen another built up like it.
Have to admit though, we didn’t get one with $10k of options like all of the dealers got. Actually saved money not waiting for one on the lot. All of those had the crazy drive-itself options and $4000 stereo upgrades.

I just assumed his wife didn’t have a license and that’s who he was referring to since the OP said his wife was the one that hit the deer

I couldn’t find the term ‘actual cash value’ on any of the estimation sites.
