And goes down the atchafalya? The remaining Mississippi River channel will turn brackish and back into marsh. New Orleans and all those ports will be cut off from the GoM. Would Morgan City, if it survives the flood, become the new New Orleans?

That would solve a lot of Baton Rouge traffic problems.

They’ll be able to redivert the Mississippi once the River goes down back to the original course.

Too much investment to abandon there.

Are you fricking serious? They can't finish the Comite diversion channel.

Yes and the river's name would be changed to:

THE RIVER OF LOUISIANA

it won't for a very very long time. The CORPS has about 10days notice to make preparations for any flood that they perceive to be a threat to the ORCS. They will blow up the potato levee and many others before they let that happen. The MS isn't a small river in Iowa that floods overnight.

fun to talk about though.

Famous last words

It will happen eventually. When - I don’t think we can accurately estimate this. Yearly flooding has been getting worse in the delta. That’s a lot of backed up water and the atchafalya is just sitting there ~15 feet lower elevation than the Mississippi just waiting for a small breach in a levee.

The Atchafalaya would get deep quick. Centerline would start to scour fast. Tons of land would be built in wax lake area.

Traffic on the basin bridge would be at a standstill.

So, no different than now.

Crawfish prices will go up if it does.

It didn't do it last year and crawfish prices went up. We dodged a bullet there.

Yeah I love in these threads how everyone acts like we'd just throw our hands up and say oh well.

When the river drops in the fall they'd rebuild the structure like they built it the first time.
