The only people that left WWL to go to Fox were Lee Zurik, Juan Kincaid, David Bernard and Bruce Katz.
Zurik is the biggest local news personality there is though. And his investigations obviously reel a lot of viewers in.

They laid off or refused to pay a ton of talent.
A lot of their producers and news directors retired or went other places when the management changed and as others posted their best talent went to fox.
ETA: They do have David hammer at WWL still who IMO is as good as zurik at investigations.

Hard to believe it was much better when the Jesuits owned it.

Worked there for 5 years and have inside knowledge of the demise of this station. When I was there our newscasts beat all of the others combined. WWL was one of the top rated stations in the entire country.
Ultimately, TV is a shrinking industry and there was an effort to reduce costs in the newsroom. From a quality and ratings standpoint, huge decline and they aren't sniffing the #1 spot anymore, but not sure the verdict on whether the bottom line is better off. I'd bet not.

They are no longer Naturally N’awlins.

Jill Hezeau
Carl Arredondo
Dawn Brown*
Who was that big titty blond weather girl? She was kinda sexy
You just mentioned everyone in the past. All great people which many were there a long time. Dawn Brown was the busty woman who was a younger version of Stiffler's mom. They chose not to renew her contract. Shde was a dingbat but made the weather segment fun and humorous. WWL at the time was more serious on how they presented the news.
I thought that Lucy Bustamante was the next Angela Hill, but if I remember correctly she left not because of her career but because of her husband getting a job in another market.

WGNO. I am amazed how that station is still in business.
Well they are an ABC affliate now. Eons ago, they were a pretty strong independent with some local shows like Real New Orleans and even a game show called NoItAlls before becoming an ABC affliate. They even aired Zephers and UNO Baseball in the early 90 and late 80's before regional sports networks took hold. They even had some of the best 1st run Syndication shows like Geraldo and Mama's Family that they ran at 10 p.m. until they launched their nightly news at 10 p.m. when they became an ABC affliate. If I remember correctly, they were able to get Andre Travine to come back into news after she lost her son in a murder. When that didn't work, they hired a parade of anchors including Brad Griffin from CTV in Canada and eventually Susan Roesgen for some part time work while she also worked for CNN, nothing seem to move the ratings up. They eventually ditched the news format to start News with a Twist which didn't move the needle either. They are now owned by Nextsar which is known for pushing a crappy news product as long as the network is happy and advertisers are buying.
As far as the future, they are going to get a lifeline for sports programming from ABC with ABC picking up some SEC Football games, but that will not move the needle on news programming though.

the Jesuits sold out to Belo in the mid 90's and that's when things began to deteriorate. Growing up in NOLA in the 70's and 80's, WWL was the premier news station and it wasn't close.

I loved me some Lucy. I think she left bc her husband was in the military and got transferred to the East Coast

I watched them during the Bacchus ball. Their audio equipment constantly malfunctioned. The hosts didn’t even know proper history of the parade and or Mardi Gras itself. It’s was just a cobbled together mess.

Yes he started there, but things went down hill for him when they hired Dawn Brown for 2 weathercasters during their new morning show but he was always seemed to be the stiff "no humor" weathercaster. So he left or was shown the door. He eventually was picked up by WWL, and waited for his time to become chief meteorologist with the retirement of others.

What happened to WWL New Orleans
All of their decent on-air talent went to Fox-8
From the 1970’s till literally 3 or so years ago, WWL-TV was the only local news channel most people watched.
Now, no one watches it anymore.
It’s beyond horrible.

Hap Glaudi was a treasure!
Hap used to spend more time talking about the results at the Fairgrounds and Jefferson Downs than he spent on many major sports.
WWL used to be very professional and a launchpad for national media. The other stations were forced to try to keep up and had some national folks emerge too. I remember moving to BR and being astounded at how bad the local news shows were.

He was in the Navy and working at SBT-22 stationed at Stennis. If you ever saw those black assault craft hauling arse up and down the Pearl River, that was SBT-22.
He got transferred to Virginia Beach/Dam Neck area and took Lucy with him.

Once Loyola sold them, they stopped being concerned about the community and thier employees and focused only on the bottom line. W W L = World Wide Loyola. They no longer project a proffessional image.

I guess their new tag line of WWL Louisiana is just a marketing scheme.
