Everyone knows what happened to New Orleans East.

Yeah, calling it "the place to be" at any point is certainly overstating it. It was never quite much more than a slightly upscale version of Chalmette, or basically about what Slidell is now.

I laugh when housing advocates say there is no affordable housing in NO. The east is cheap as hell and a lot closer commute than most other places.
Yeah but the trade off is a significant percent increase in suffering a gun shot wound.

Some bad representation on the city council with lots of corruption.
Section 8 came in with that corruption and property values languished.
Katrina cleared it all up

Yeah, that's not true. When the aerospace industry started developing in the Michoud area, the east had some of the highest real estate growth rates in the country.

We had three medical centers. Doctors lived all over the East in the 80's.
I had fun in the East until the mid-late 90's. Drugs and gangs pretty much took over.

This isn't a serious question is it?

We would drive in the 1970s and 1980s from old Harvey/Marrero out to the Plaza to go to Farrell's whenever my cousins would come home from college, or their new homes out-of-town/country.
Space Port was the thing!!
There was a real history of nice residential areas off of Chef Highway in the near east when that was the only way into New Orleans on Highway 90, then, as has been suggested, when Michoud was REALLY booming.
You also have some older neighborhoods clustered off of Hayne Boulevard in Little Woods, which were decent areas as well, along with the hundreds of camps out in the lake. These were reduced to 4 in 1998 after Georges came to town, and then 0 in 2005. :(
Older folks started dying out, and middle aged families started moving out in the 1990s.

If something is cheap there is a reason. It isnt because it is a hidden gem. Too much lead around to have gems

No one is saying they have to, but obviously I’d live in kenner before I lives in New Orleans east on the basis of safety from crime.

Take 1000 bulldozers go from west to east for 15 miles turn around and repeat. after 6 months of doing this —-start from scratch.
That’s the only option...

Not extremely complicated, really. As a bottom line, you could say it was a “lack
of investment” and not get in trouble.
