There was awhile back but havent been in awhile.

JRs was the name but the last time I went wasnt the old stuff we are used to.

Military quit getting rid of a lot of that stuff in lieu of destroying it. The problem was people profiting off of it. The internet made it too easy to beat prices of what was still out there. Then the rise of the hunting industry really did it in. Army surplus was the only option for hunting gear in the 80s, when Mossy Oak and Resltree blew the lid off of that it was over.

There is only one thief in the Army; everyone else is just trying to get their stuff back.

It's like a chemical antiseptic it's not bad. But they all smell the same. When I was in the army and 1992 I opened up claymore's that were from 1974 and they smelled like the best pair of fresh tennis shoes ever. Boy did they go boom.

PostScript. When you come off the ground 12 feet away from a device that has 750 double lot buckshot and a pound of c4, there's nothing like it.

Seems like it’s mostly third party vendors with new stuff. But some like Perrot’s in Kenner and the place in Slidell have a lot of legit surplus stuff plus from other countries.

They are probably shipping the excess to Ukraine or Chyna buys it up as an undercover 3rd party.

I can recall the smell of the old Army tents we set up as kids when I was in the Boy Scouts back in the early 60's. We'd go over to a large wooded area in Miss. near the Gulf Coast and camp out for a few days about 3 times a year.

The smell inside those tents is embedded in my mind to this day.

Only one I’ve been to is Commando’s outside of Benning recently. Everything is a rip off, $5 for a plastic protractor.
