Any rifle that someone pulls a trigger on in an attempt to assault someone. Same goes for weapons of any choice.

How difficult is an AR build for a dude that's been around guns his entire life but is definitely average when it comes to mechanical stuff? I honestly have no idea but I'd like to do it. 3/10, 5/10?

I put it at a 3/10. Even with zero experience, you can easily put one together from a parts kit in a couple hours. Less than 30 minutes after you know what you are doing.

The bug-a-salt is the best purchase I ever made short of Lasik.

I'm about to find out

First build coming up. I'll need to take it to a gunsmith for mounting the gas block and barrel into the receiver but everything else seems pretty straightforward.

I know that the media or people in general call AR's and the like "assault" rifles but it doesn't really make any sense.

I'll add this to what the others have told you. When the assault weapons ban was passed, the law said any semi auto rifle that could accept a detachable magazine with 2 or more features such as pistol grip, folding or collapsible stock, bayonet lug, threaded barrel and grenade launcher. Yes they did include grenade launcher in law. That was for rifles and shotguns had some features issues also.

Interesting enough all those evil features were allowed on non semi auto weapons. Nowadays states who have assault bans narrowed it down to 1 evil feature and some like California banned all features in semi autos.

Depends on if it has a chainsaw bayonet or not.

I have a gun collection and it includes a couple of AK-style rifles. Just never got into the AR craze.

I'm honestly pretty sick of hearing about ARs. Not the hill anyone who actually favors gun rights needs to be dying on.

You said I was pissed off because other people have hobbies. I thought you should know that, in reality, I have the same hobby.

There's no jealousy there; the things I've seen and heard while participating in that hobby have cured me of any desire to own an AR. If I wanted one, I'd buy one. They are much easier to get than AKs now, and this has been true for several years.

You have a gun collection, you love AK's, you hate AR's, and you don't think AR ownership is a "hill to die on", but you still think you should be able to own AK's. You're all over the board here, Fudd

I wouldn't put it that way. Owning a rifle of any kind is the right of a free man.

If you feel similarly, and an AR is what you want, then we agree on the important thing but have different tastes.

I do like nice wood furniture, blued steel, etc. and I do roll my eyes a little when the guy in the next lane pulls out an AR with lasers, forward grips, etc. (and a scope that's probably never even been sighted in.)

Call me Elmer, I guess.
