Any citizen with a clean record, $15k plus to blow and six to eight months to wait can own a machine gun. Well maybe not if you live in a commie state/city but most of the country it works that way. Macine guns made pre-1987 (thanks Regan) are transferable. Takes a $200 tax stamp and approval by atf and local law enforcement. Same process for a suppressor, short barreled rifle etc.

An M2 isn't an assault rifle. It's a mounted machine gun. Nobody is shoulder firing an M2, and it's definitely not shooting an intermediate size round.

This is really the only barrier for entry into a full Auto. No one wants to spend that much and much more on an old gun that they can buy an almost identical one, that they just have to pull the trigger fast to shoot(without the hassle of atf issues) for a tenth or less in price

I wasn’t talking about an assault rifle in that post. That post is a dovetail from a reply where someone asked about the process to legally own a full auto weapon. It stemmed from an article where an expert stated it can cost up to $5 a round for someone wanting to collect and fire automatic weapons.

And I know the M2 intimately. From tear down, clearing stoppages, cleaning, reassembly, setting headspace & timing, mounting on tripod or mounting on the TC cupola of an Abrams, to firing from either position, with the TC mount being either manual or power fire. Trust me. I know the Ma Duce all too well.

"Assault rifle"... Meticulously selected term? intentionally vague?

This guy came up with the term.

And he did it when he saw this rifle being demonstrated. It was the world’s first mass produced assault rifle.

This is the Sturmgewehr 44 which translates to English as Assault Rifle 44.

And for the record, this is an assault rifle

These are not
