My uncle was a mason. He quit because he said it was the devil's club.
Of course, my uncle thought everyone failed in their spiritual life with Jesus and peppered everything he ever said with biblical quotes and judgement. His family, while loving him as their dad, hated what he became. A mean, judgemental old man.
If he is now eaten up with the dementia, I know you uncle.

I keep hearing that the Masons are some secret society that runs everything and has hidden knowledge about all of mankind.
A good friend of mine was invited to join and has worked his way up to getting one of those funny purple hats….and he still doesn’t know shite.

Places where 60 year old retired men get together and drink beer.....and raise money for worthy causes. They are good guys

You're not at the meetings.....they plot to take over our institutions and subvert the youth......mostly with smelly dunebuggies and loud horns

Both my grandfathers were Masons. I’m not sure what exactly what that entailed. But my MIL is Catholic and said she was taught Masons were devil worshipers. I later learned that the Catholic Church started this nonsense because they didn’t want any secret societies in case they were plotting against the Catholics.
My grandfathers were Baptist and Methodist. I know good and well that they weren’t devil worshipers.

We can’t have any organizations stealing members, time, and frying fish skills from the Knights of Columbus.

My dad has been a mason for 50 years and is locally as high in the organization as one can get. They just do a bunch of charity stuff. A few Saturdays where they cook and sell a bunch of pork butts, or have a fish fry and sell plates for $10.00. He is 82 and when he was younger, he played golf a lot with some of his lodge members. Other than that, I don’t think they do much of anything.
Actually is there is also a spiritual and religious aspect to masonry. Some meditation and reflection is done at the meetings.

The mason meeting place is not a lodge, it is called a Temple.
The moose lodge is real, it is not from the Flintstone (that was the Water Bujffalo Lodge).

Not the first time I’ve heard that about Masons.

I had a Bible class teacher in HS tell me his father was a Mason and talked about them killing people or cutting their tongues out for telling the secrets. He said it was against God’s way, then he cried in front of everyone.
In hindsight, that guy might have been nuts.

The fraternity I joined in college had an early member that was a Mason and our ritual supposedly has a lot of connections to theirs. I had to become proficient in our ritual and even though I am in my 50’s, I still remember most of it and even helped initiate my son and his pledge brothers at his chapter.

The Templars had this problem, too.
