Mixed references
Water buffaloes was the Flintstones
Grand Poobah was Happy Datys
I know this from years of mocking my dad’s lodge attendance

Actually Grand Poobah was both in the Water Buffaloes and the Leopard Lodge and more. Grand Poobah is first mentioned in 1800s. Grand Poobah

I believe you, specifically for FM, I just haven’t seen it personally. Guess what I’m saying is that these sorts of fraternal organizations had a historical level of prominence that is not as apparent today. All part of an older weirder America.

I’m still disappointed that they cancelled Sealab. There were some really hilarious cartoons on Adult Swim back in the day…

Hard to find an Oddfellow under 80. They ran the orphanages across the country as their charity. Roe vs Wade ended that. Ronnie ended long term locked mental health facilities when he was POTUS.
Been downhill since.

I’m a Moose member. Basically here where I live there are only four places to get mixed drinks. The Moose and Elks are two of them, and their drinks are much cheaper and they have bands and such. $75 to join, $50 a year and no cover charge.
I still haven’t done any new member shite or been to any meetings. Basically just got the card to have a place to watch some games, grab a cheeseburger, few bourbons.

Moose Lodge's here on the east coast are strong and active. Lots of blue collar folks that organize to benefit local charities.
But bar none, Moose Lodges here are the cheapest places you can drink. You bring your own liquor (and the barkeeps will mix em) but beer / wine / ciders are $2 a can / bottle. And the strong lodges will have something going on every day of the week: bands / festivals every weekend, view-ins for any / all sporting events, gambling / raffles multiple times a week and some serve breakfast / lunch / dinner everyday.
Say what you will, but it's a real community of folks that have a good time and enjoy life together while benefitting others. Like a church but with lotsa drankin.
