What does it say about our society that we pay athletes millions of dollars?

When you hear, 20 million per year salary for a guy to catch a leather ball, do you think it’s ridiculous? Or it’s just business?

Victorious gladiators were praised as well.

It says that demand is driven by supply.
If there were more people that could perform at the level of professional athletes, the price tag would go down.

No it’s entertainment and people want it. There are plenty of things in the world that are not needed (like music, television/movies, and sports) but there’s a demand for them so they will make lots of money.

It’s a function of capitalism and free enterprise. Doesn’t bother me. It’s the same reason why WNBA players bitch about being paid too little. demand drives salary
