I do take issue with universities or pro teams that grant huge buyouts for coaches that fail. Same goes for players that fail but that is not abused as much. A coach that sucks arse should not get millions of dollars to walk away. These practices result in higher prices for all of us.

Do you not believe in freedom of contract? A business does not HAVE to agree to pay an employee the full amount of his/her contract if that employee is terminated prior to the expiration of the contract. However, the employee doesn't have to accept those terms either.

A school/pro team doesn't pay a buyout if an employee quits before the contract expires. In fact, many times it's just the opposite (particularly for college coaches)

A coach who sucks arse isn't getting millions of dollars just to "walk away." He's getting millions of dollars because that's what he's contractually owed and what the employer knowingly agreed to.

If employer doesn't want to pay the full contract in the event of an early termination that's certainly their prerogative. But they also better be willing to accept they won't be able to hire candidates who are successful enough to have that kind of negotiating leverage.

I agree, just saying that a lot of people are unknowingly helping to fund pro sports, albeit indirectly, probably the most stealthy and unknowing way is if they have cable or satellite service and any station that broadcast sports is included in that package, whether or not the channel is ever tuned, sort of like vampire electricity usage

After reading your post, no need to put MS after Oxford. No more confusion.

you're telling me that only 15 guys in the world have the physical ability to throw and run, and the intelligence to read a defense at the same time?

I don't buy it. there are loads of guys around the world, and locally, who either grew up playing other sports, parents didn't support, got in trouble, didn't have the desire, etc. , but have the same athletic and mental potential to fill that role had they walked the same path.

This is so not correct.

Probably less. But the best of the rest fill a roster

To play at that level requires super elite talent and skill. Just let the NFL go on strike, you'll see the difference.

That’s ok. The way Roger Goodell is changing the NFL, my 77 year old mom will be able to make an NFL roster . The National FlagFootball league. 5 year deal for 30k per.

I bet there are several who ended up playing baseball or basketball who could have been good QBs in the NFL but they could make more $$ and have longer careers not getting pummeled in the NFL

All forms of entertainers get paid because millions are willing to shell out the money to go see them entertain.

If there is very few people who can perform a certain task at an extremely high level, then they will be paid accordingly.

That's a different argument. I believe there are less than 15 people in the world that can currently go through fall camp and play QB in the NFL at an elite level. People who could have and choose not to, or didn't have the means or support to learn properly, don't count as "can go do".

Seriously, think about this.

The money that athletes don't just fall out of the sky. So if they paid, let's say, every player in the NFL $50k. You rather the money that they make, be kept by the owners?

People don't go to games, multi-million dollar TV deals are not made, merchandise doesn't happen because people are really excited to go watch a team because of who owns it.

You think people go to the Patriots games because they are like "I fricking love Robert Kraft. It doesn't matter what kind of team he puts on the field, the dude just knows how to own shite"?

People go to games, watch the games on TVs and buy merchandise because of the players and the different personalities associated with the game. They want to see people, who work their arse off to stay on top of their game, make plays that the average person can't make.

There are people who make a lot of money doing a lot less.

Its possible

However I don't think people realize how great you have to be at what you do to be in the NFL, NBA or MLB

If they were easily replaceable, they wouldn't make much money. The pay isn't arbitrary
