Nahh...the best athletes are famous and praised. Instead the shitty ones dying, they just don't get famous these days and aren't rich.

It says a lot when we have a world population in the billions and less than 15 people can perform at a high level as an NFL qb.

The money is not a big deal. We like to watch sports. We buy tickets. We watch on TV. Advertisers see opportunities. They pay for ads. Revenue is generated. We buy merchandise. Leagues and team get money. The players are generally the best at what they do and thus have leverage to get the salaries.

I have no issue with athletes making money.

I do take issue with universities or pro teams that grant huge buyouts for coaches that fail. Same goes for players that fail but that is not abused as much. A coach that sucks arse should not get millions of dollars to walk away. These practices result in higher prices for all of us.

Most problematic is that we think someone like Lebron James, because of his expertise on a basketball court, his money, and his fame, is somehow an expert or credible voice in other matters. There's no logic in that. Same applies to The Rock. Or Bono. Being famous and rich does not mean you're smart.

"we" don't. 32 people do, with their own money, as those 32 see fit.

If you want certain types of classes of workers to be paid a certain amount, you go ahead and you do it. But easy on the "We".

I'd say its worse that people look up to these people(all entertainers) and seek their guidance on how to live everyday life

the hell it's not, Texas Rangers are still paying A-Rod for the stupid contract they signed in the early 2000s, Marlins are paying BoBo more now than he ever made playing and will be for some time, those are just two examples

It says a lot more about common sense in America. How people don’t understand why athletes make so much is amazing to me.

It says that we have the information distribution capability where you can sell an entertainment experience to millions of individuals at once. Saying we "value" athletes and entertainers too much and don't value more "worthy" but lower paid professions is an argument that completely ignores scale. If we changed our education systems where most students took classes online from the same teacher then our teachers would start getting paid like entertainers because their efforts would start to scale like entertainment.
