Waste is subjective, especially if you're talking about entertainment like eating out, travel, bar tabs, etc.

Healthcare and housing are ridiculous though, but that's not really "waste".

What about clothes?

Just saw a story on Bloomburg that the clothes retailing industry is tanking. 20 yrs ago we spent 6.2% of our money on clothes. Now we spend about half of that. Clothing retailers are closing shops at a record pace.

Food is a good one. Fat people eat more than they need, so they get fat.

The only benefit to being fat is that you might get a TV show if you become morbidly obese and can't move

I don’t understand how you can “waste” money on food.

Food.

I've gotten better at not eating out as much. That probably makes me better than most.

But even then, its tough to get the exact right amount at the grocery store. I imagine its easier for a family of 4. Can't tell you how many times I've needed half an onion and chucked the other half (obviously an example on the cheaper side of the spectrum). And of course we pay extra for the convenience of it being prepared in some way there, too... chopped, etc.

Booze too when you factor in eating out. I don't consider take-home prices to be that outrageous there.

ETA: Cell phone/internet service, too. But in the end an individual spends a lot more on food in a month and therefore has more potential waste.

It's amazing how much 3 or 4 beers can add on your bill.

Men waste most of their money on women.

Women don’t have money to waste. They do, in turn, waste their man’s money on looking good for other women.

I mean is there another answer here? That seems like it’d take it in a landslide there.

I’d also like to add that the sheet industry is a fricking racket. I spent over $60 on a set of queen sized sheets and that was the lowest price at bed bath and beyond today. fricking incredible, those fricking kids in China that work their little fingers to the bone for quarters of pennies on the American dollar ain’t seeing any of that money!

Feels like it is when I haven’t been to the doctor in 12 years but have to keep paying high insurance premiums because some obese person keeps getting sick while unemployed.
