I’d also like to add that the sheet industry is a fricking racket. I spent over $60 on a set of queen sized sheets and that was the lowest price at bed bath and beyond today. fricking incredible, those fricking kids in China that work their little fingers to the bone for quarters of pennies on the American dollar ain’t seeing any of that money!
They last 10 years if you're not a slob. I wouldn't say paying $6/year for sheets is egregious.

People don’t waste money on food.
There’s a difference

Compared to other countries, we spend a bunch more on our cars.

Eating out.
I have friends that eat out 3-4 times a week cuz they are too lazy to cook. And yet they complain about car insurance and rent, etc.
Oh, and they are fat as hogs.

I don't know if it's waste, but certain food is so expensive.

Financed cars and trucks. I can't believe the first mention of cars was mid page 2. Perpetual cycle of vehicle payments is keeping many people from building wealth.

It’s like $40-$60 for a decent button down nowadays. Even with all the cheap overseas labor. Frick the retailers.

Diamonds. Easily. Engagement rings are the biggest scam in the world.

I say "keeping up with the jones'" is the largest waste of money.
Joe got a new truck, I need one.
Susie got a new (insert brand name here) watch, I need one
Frank bought a new house, I need one.
As a byproduct, we, as a society, are less appreciative of what we have and are constantly striving for more material items. This opens up more issues. Working more = less time at home with family = disengaged children/spouse = deviant behavior.
Or, we live beyond our means which causes all kinds of problems.
Just my .02
