Do gold star mothers go to Iraq and Afghanistan to visit the place their loved one passed?
You tell us. Do they?

Crosses/memorials on public roadsides should not be allowed. I’m sorry your loved one passed, but that doesn’t make it alright to put a cross there. Putting something in private land is up to the landowner.
That being said, I am sympathetic to the grieving process and don’t mind temporary memorials. A couple weeks, ok. But the spots with permanent crosses, no.
Where do you stop the memorials? Can I put a 10 foot sign on the public land on side of the road, or is it only a cross? If my loved one loved Alabama football, can I put an Alabama sign up? Does my loved one have to die at the spot? What if I want to just put up a memorial on the side of the road because they liked that road?

I don't understand it, but to each their own. No harm to me.

I offer a short prayer for that person represented and their family/friends. It’s ok by me.

I don't find that as strange as the rolling memorials on the back windows of cars. You know, "R.I.P. Big Pookie" in big Gothic script.

My favorite are the “in memory of” stickers. Your car is in memory of Big Pookie?

Virginia has these you can put up permanently:

Too close to the roadway is unsafe as are the big lighted ones.

Reminds people to be more careful behind the wheel.

My thoughts? It’s littering.

im not a fan as they are litter and clutter on someone elses or state property, but that said they remind you and mark bad places on roads where people die, so look at them as warning signs for hazardous areas and not death markers

What about the people putting death cross stickers on their vehicles? And what about the families that make matching t-shirts?

I don't mind the small ones, but I hate to see them with dead flowers, faded ribbons and ripped-up signs. Just like a gravesite if you put flowers on them have the respect to remove them or anything else when they become an eyesore.

Personally, I wouldn't want the reminder that my loved one had his/her life cut tragically short at this very spot. Especially if I had to pass it every day. But if it helps someone else grieve, more power to them.

but I don't get putting a cross on someone's property and it staying there. Thoughts?
When I die I want my family to put a cross with my name in bold every mile along I-10. I want to look like if Gordon McKernan died.
