Hammond isn’t terrible
the mayor is kind of simple and there the required race pimp on the council, but shite generally gets done and the police are well staffed and “aggressive”. Downtown is safe and clean and vibrant and the commercial corridors on 190 and 51/railroad are well stocked. Tough to find a house but that happens when 50% of the housing stock is ghetto.

All things considered it’s top 5 in this shithole state

Only place I’ve liked off of my regular i10 drives are near Lafayette, Covington/madisonville, and I think the walker exit that seemed to suddenly get busy with construction and got really really nice

Metairie and it isn't even close. Low taxes, good police protection, well protected residential areas and right next to the tender box of the state. The reason it is so well run? It isn't even a city at all. It is completely unincorporated and does not have any elected officials. No Mayor, no city council, no police department, no city court, no fire department, nothing. It just goes to show you that you don't need a government at all to operate and maybe it is better to not have one at all.

These things are still provided by government. The parish president, sheriff, council, assessor, coroner, court clerk, etc are all elected. What's effectively the difference between a Jefferson parish council person and a New Orleans city hall council person? There's still code enforcement and building permits to issue. For sure Jefferson more streamlined, efficient, and cheaper than stretching some functions to a city and some to a parish. But Metairie is an example of non-governmental Utopia?

Not a Boulet fan by any means but she's already proven herself to be more "conservative" than Josh by cancelling his vanity projects. She doesn't suck Trump off, isn't obsessed with gays and weed, or say the buzzwords but she's a lot more "fiscally" conservative than Josh.

What vanity projects specifically? I'm genuinely curious about that

The project to "beautify" North University looks like a giant clusterfrick TBH

Ruston. Good enough to get a Buccee’s and has one of the best mountain bike trails in the region and the best baseball complex in the state.

It’s Eastern Washington Parish VS Western Washington Parish. Bogalusa isn’t what it was 40 years ago and with the current political climate and everything that comes with it, it’s not getting better anytime soon. It’s not much better in Franklinton but the way of life is just different in the Western side of the Parish, at least for now. 40 years from now Washington Parish will look and feel completely different than it does today.

Monroe has lost some serious population over the last thirty years. It's pretty shocking to see how many people have moved out of NELA.
