Two awesome things that I installed recently that I can't recommend highly enough. First, I changed out my floodlights to a 180 degree LED motion-activated light. Freaking awesome. It's super bright and lights up my entire back deck and pool area.

$79 at Home Depot

I also put my garage, my alarm, and many of my lights on Z-Wave. It links to your phone and you can control it all. I geofenced my house on the app and when I turn in the driveway, my garage opens, my alarm turns off, and several of my interior lights come on. Good shite.

Garage - $79 at Lowes

Lights - $36 on Amazon

Alarm module - $24 but depends on your alarm panel

What cool stuff have you done?

Yep Alarm.com.

ETA: There is no additional fee besides what I already pay for my monitoring.

Put usb outlets in all the bedrooms where phones/tablets would be plugged in

I also put in a wifi garage opener because the range of my clicker sucked

I added an aluminum patio cover last year to give us a large covered outdoor space for low cost. They are very inexpensive and the back of my house faces the trees so I wasn't too worried about appearance.

If you don't have motion lights, you're missing out.
I have one under the carport, in my shed, in my attic, in the laundry room, and all the closets.
The ones you install to inside to replace the light switch are cheap and simple to install.

Nice. I also put one in my pantry.

Me too, along with my counter in my kitchen where I put my keys. Makes me remember to grab my phone every time I leave and it's fully charged.

Thanks for this thread. I'm looking at buying an older house and doing some upgrades myself.

We pulled a JoJo move and knocked a wall out between a family room and formal living room. It almost doubled our family room in size and so much better for entertaining. Formal LR's should never be built they are such a waste! We had to put a beam in middle for support which I hated at first but it's a nice break in the giant room.

Added a pool, hot tub, and deck. We never get enough of any of them. Put the pool blanket on last week and it's already up to 76. A few more degrees and I'm in!

We renovated a closet area that backed up to the TV wall in the living room. I ran all of the wires from the TV to a hall closet, where all of my internet/media devices reside. I highly recommend it, and you won't see any green/blue lights when watching tv or movies in the dark.

I like the idea of the Z-Wave stuff, I've been wanting to buy more smart home things like that.

We put in a Honeywell wifi thermostat. Was nice when I was hot this morning and bumped the temperature down from bed.

This!! My last house had a wifi thermostat. I just recently moved into a new house that does not have one and I definitely miss it. Will be upgrading soon

I have a nest, and this is by far my favorite feature. Setting the temp without getting off my arse.

Not really a modification but it's something inexpensive that paid for itself in a couple months. $50

oreeg, this work that well? Never seen this before, but I'm looking at ways to lower my electric bill. It's higher than what I believe it should be. This could probably be an entirely new topic of just things you've done to make your house more energy efficient.
