We love our vet. But if thy recommend something that’s too much, off they go to the vet in Mexico.

Just had my dogs teeth cleaned. She’s 4 and 1/2. Better than having em pulled later. Her grooming costs more than my haircut . . . So . . . Yeah

You are a dumb and ignorant motherfricker.

Vets are like any other doctor, mechanic, or lawyer. You hate em' till you need em.' They're running a business; they are going to try to get you to spend $. All you gotta do is say no thanks.

I take both of my dogs to AVS on Goodwood and I never have issues. They are reasonably priced and haven't been pushy. Highly recommend.

My daughter is a Vet. OP, if your Vet is handing you some BS, maybe you need to try someone else. I know for a fact that if my daughter tells someone that something needs to be done, it really needs to be done. She always tell the people up front what needs to be done and what can wait.
For a fact, people wait for appointments just with my daughter. She feels that every animal that needs care, she will provide and her time is endless towards that animal. She works at False River Vet clinic.

Some of the numbers being quoted for dentals in this thread don't make much sense. If you don't do blood work before anesthesia you don't know the health status of the dog. Hell, if you aren't going to a practice that uses dental radiographs you are seeking out care that is cheaper but of markedly lower quality.
This stuff does take some money. Running blood costs overhead. Drugs cost money. Technician time costs money. Radiographs cost money.

You have to at least get your pet rabies shots. Not only is it the law, but the real purpose of the shots is to keep humans from getting rabies. It's a miserable way to die.
For a fact here in Louisiana about rabies shot. Years ago, one could buy the shot very easy and give it to your pet. State law now is that it must be given by a Vet. One can still buy the shot, BUT, it don't count if your pet bites someone. If that pet bites someone, that pet will have to stay with a vet for 10 days, plus testing. That $15 shot you gave your pet after a bite will cost you well over a grand.

They're always hawking bullshite food. First it was lamb and rice then duck and potato and now grain free. While they are needed, vets sure seem to have a car salesman side to them.

You will say that until you see a dog that is sneezing all the time or scratching his fur out then the behavior stops when the dog food is changed.

I like my vet. Sure it’s more expensive than 20 years ago but what isn’t?

How's Dr. Nave doing these days?

Get someone you trust and stick with them.

Maybe you need a new vet. I only do the minimum and they never try to sell me on anything else.
This. My vet in Harvey was great, my last dog even liked going. One time they didn't even charge me, just told me the $5 item to buy for his paw.
Furry Friends on Lapalco.

No replacement for having a family friend who is a vet. I don’t have to worry about that kind of bs

What gets me is vets that continue the ruse of "annual shots" just to get people in the door. Seems really common in Louisiana.
I am a responsible pet owner and am going to bring my pet in at least once a year for an examination but don't tell me lies about my dog needing a full range of vaccinations every year when the rest of the country has known those things last 5+ years minimum and probably for life.

A competent Vet has only the pet's health and well-being in mind. That's how we operate. We've been open less than 3 years now, and our business has grown by leaps and bounds because we stick to this premise. Always question the necessity of what you're being offered. Some Vets will push tests and procedures just to generate revenue. But if they do their jobs with only the pet's health in mind, the results speak for themselves. And we NEVER do anything without the client's permission first.
Where are you located? I am trying to find a vet with some knowledge of Addison's as my dog has it. I feel like my vet isn't willing to listen to me when I present with new research on dosing, treatment, etc.
