Do you brush your dog's teeth regularly? Do you give them bully sticks in between? Do you use a fluoride additive to his water every time you replace or fill up his water bowl?
If you answered no to any of these questions, your dog will need its teeth cleaned at some point, generally 1x every 18 to 24 months or more.
Dogs can't tell you that their mouths hurt, so it's your job as a responsible pet parent to take care of it for him.

Every year, I take my dog back home to where my parents live to get her shots. The town does this thing once a year and shots are like $25 total.

Sounds like you need a new vet. Mine is awesome, actually gives me free shite instead of making me pay for unnecessary crap.

Yes, but why should I, the pet owner, be made to feel like I mistreat my pampered dog who never goes outside and eats better than me because I’m risking her health from plaque by not spending $500 on anteeth cleaning? It’s like the people begging for money in front of stores for their charity of choice when all I want to do is get in and out.

A teeth cleaning costs in my area around $135 or so if I get it in February and yes, some vets charge much more. You have to shop around.

Dogs survived without teeth cleaning for centuries. I’ll never pay for that. Just wish I didn’t have to deal with it. Also, I provide my pet with heart worm pills every month without fail, yet I must pay $100+ for the pleasure of purchasing the prescription so I can then actually buy the pills every year. Racket

I use a great country vet in Coushatta. Reasonable prices and good work - city vets love the add ons.

Vets should be abolished. Medical doctors should then start treating animals as well as humans.

The vet we had in Baton Rouge for 18 years was great, the ones we’ve had in New Orleans for 3 years have been great too.

Mine goes once a year and when they don't act normal. If you can't tell that then you probably don't need a pet.
