think it should all be much more casual, frankly. Kids ought to be able to play sports without investing so much time into it. Even back in the 1980s when I played youth baseball, we practiced, like every... fricking... day. Why? I don't think the NCAA or the NFLPA even lets football teams practice as much as we did. It gets old quickly.
So your solution is kids can come and go and not be serious? So the kids that want to be good and have a desire to be better should just stay and play with kids who play 2-3 months then don’t pick up a bat again for 8-9 months??? Yea that’s a solution for never progressing
But little league is pretty much what you described, that’s why the good kids go play travel in most sports. The kids that like sports want more competitive environment.

Yeah it’s really underrated how bad practice sucked arse, especially if you were OL or DL. Just bashing into each other day in and day out or pushing that god damn sled while the skill guys got 7 on 7. Individual and group were the fricking worst.
Yea I was a small pulling guard. I loved when I got to go play TE some and do 7v7
Practice sucked dick most of the time in football. Especially when you are young and not a starter

Only ever played football. Was pretty good, always started but got injured my sophomore year and started to have more fun watching the game than actually playing. Started to not really care if we won or lost, guess I lost that competitiveness and figured if I didn’t care I probably shouldn’t be on the team. Quit shortly after spring training going into my junior season. Never really regretted it, playing in the games was awesome but football practice sucks arse. If I ever made it to the nfl I’d be like Andrew luck and get my money and bail. You have to have a serious love for the game to play as long as some of those guys do

Still at it. Been playing rugby since my senior year in high school with no plans on retiring anytime soon.

I stopped sports at 15 - but was also in the band and danced

I had visions of scholarships pouring in.

Stopped Soccer at 12, baseball at 14, and played basketball through Senior Year (starter on 5A playoff team).
Basketball and Flag football Intramurals at LSU were a blast. Random Corporate or adult leagues here & there for 20 years.

Started running too late in HS. Was on the cross country team during senior year. Was only average runner. Next year, I went to an university that had no sports whatsoever. Quit running and focused on academics.
Now, I’m 55 and 225 pounds. It would take forever to be a decent runner with my out of shape body. I feel embarrassed that a few of my female friends from college crush 10 mile runs ever morning. Lol

I was decently fast for a white kid in elementary to Jr high..then I moved to an aint-shite middle of nowhere town, and was by far the fastest kid at the all white school.
The level of competition just wasn't the same, none of those white kids just made it "look easy" at recess.
..probably running 4.5 40s in 4th grade. That last day of school shite was hard, sitting around with a bunch of 4th place, 5th place and Honorable mention ribbons.

can’t even tell you how many hours I spent taking him to practices.
Not to mention the myriad hours you spent on here telling us he was the next Messi and other nonsense.

He was the best center mid in the state zero doubt. Free kick machine.
Update from camp:
1st day they kicked 6 kicks from 48 into the wind, then 6 kicks with the wind from 55. Went 4 for 6 against and 5 for 6 with. Got down to the final group in competition and made his 60 yd kick, missed from a touch short 65 to come up tied second.
Today it was 48 and 53 since the wind was swirling, 5 for 6 and 4 for 6. Won the competition with a 61. Makes … 55, 57, 59, and 61.

It really sucks as a lineman when you’re at a small school where pretty much everyone is on the “varsity” team, so you’re in 10th grade getting the shite kicked out of you by guys 2-3 years older.
Still wouldn’t trade it for the world though.
