Senior year of HS. I was a terrible athlete, so in a competitive world, I would have stopped earlier. But on a 3-7 football team, I got to start the whole season!

I ran track through my senior year. I wasn’t good enough to do any sports including track beyond that.

Is he actually good? You learn your skill level in sports quickly in high school!
He was the 7th/8th grade Offensive MVP (QB) and split time at QB with another kid Freshman year at a 6-A Texas Highschool.
Sophomore year they moved the other kid to Varsity but not my son, it pissed him off or busted his bubble.

Tried to do some stuff in College but gave it up.
Playing seasonal club sports today in the area with a huge athletic group and I dabble in CF events to stay active.

He played Baseball, Football and Basketball year round from age five/six till now.
Sports likely felt like a job to him, not recreation.

My 16 yr old son has totally quit soccer…can’t even tell you how many hours I spent taking him to practices. Probably went to 60 tournaments.
He plays football still.

Baseball after Junior College
Football after high school. Was somewhat recruited to play football in JC since I was also playing baseball, but I knew as a white boy safety at 5'9 and 175 pounds that ran a 4.8 40 I was going to be a practice dummy.

Never played a snap of football after losing in the third round my senior year. Played some pickup basketball in college for a couple of years until I was 20 or so then nothing.
Was always kind of cool to see a huge group of 60-70 year old men playing on the other side of the court. They were awful but they were always laughing and having a good arse time. They’d sub out and had a guy keep score and everything.

As far as football goes, if you don’t love the team aspect, practice can fricking suck. If you are not really into it and are not gonna have a chance to start, we’ll it’s easy to understand why a kid quits.
Yeah it’s really underrated how bad practice sucked arse, especially if you were OL or DL. Just bashing into each other day in and day out or pushing that god damn sled while the skill guys got 7 on 7. Individual and group were the fricking worst.
