Here's another question? Anyone ever get a spanking from a principal? I attended a Catholic school and the principal had a small paddle that he would use. I never received one from him.

I deserved it on some occasions, sometimes the old man just had a shorter temper than others. I personally don't think I was a bad kid. Always had great grades in school and was respectful. He worked a lot and I'm sure stress was a factor. In my younger days I held ill will against him, now that I'm older and see how tough life can be I don't begrudge him. My dad is one of my biggest heroes and he's one of my biggest fans. High in sight, I probably will spank my kids but using a belt will come as a last resort. FYI I have no issue with parents disciplining their kids how they see fit. Although Id rather see it not done by force.

Beat? No. Spanked? Yes. Every time I got an arse whooping, I alone brought down the law on my keester by doing stupid shite and the majority of the time my mom was the judge, jury and executioner. She was an arse whipping machine (God rest her soul).

Whipped, spanked, switched, and tbh my hot tempered mom beat me a couple times. Partially deserved.

Whipping? Yes, deserved every one, and didn't get caught on the other ones that I should have received.

I had to pick out a few switches back in the day. It had a big impact on rules and me following them. There was no question my grandparents loved me, that was just their means of discipline and it worked.

Got my arse whipped with a belt, yea. That was all well and good, though. No biggie. It wasn't until I was close to high school age that my dad would be down to actually fight me for back talking. Particularly if he'd had a few. I always remember him fighting my older brothers and that eventually made it's way down to me as I got older.
Definitely affected me. I didn't really see how abnormal that was until I went to college and met people with normal families who didn't treat each other like shite.

nothing a kid does deserves being beaten by a parent. When the adult goes from "i'm disciplining you" to "I'm taking my anger out on you" is when it is taken too far.

A while back a good friend I grew up with were talking about this same subject and he told me that when he was around 4th or 5th grade, for whatever reason, his dad went off on him one year close to Christmas. Said he had to stay home from school for a week bc he had a bruise with a hand imprint on his cheek. Apparently nothing even close to that ever happened before or even after that.
To me the most fricked up part about it was that he said he is able to never think about it all year long but every single year even to this day when anyone brought up Christmas plans he will have multiple nightmares about it. I know he still talks to his dad here and there but you can definitely see that he doesn't seem to be as close to his dad as I remember them being when we were kids.

I didn't get beat, but I got whipped by my daddy and slapped by my mom. I don't call that beat, they didn't abuse me or anything.
