Yea I’m fine. Not close with either of my parents but I’m pretty normal.

Never had a hand laid on me in my life. I found out recently that my grandfather (who died when I was a baby) beat my dad and he made a promise to himself that he’d never lay a hand on his kids in anger. For that I am grateful. In turn, I never touched my kids when I was mad and they have turned out to be amazing young adults.

Beaten with an air pump, fractured forearm. Put in a headlock and punched multiple times.
Kicked in the middle of the back.
All of this in addition to regular spankings and belt whippings.
I hated my father most of my life, but after my first child (daughter) was born - he softened up.
He was a drunk, and I have forgiven him. Lots of wasted time in our history, but things are great now.
Never really affected my life, I moved out when I was 18. That's not true, I use to tear up in movies when the dad would say he was proud of his son....... However, If anything I took the tough lessons, softened them a bit, and passed them down to my children.
I am a teddy bear compared to my father, but super strict compared to most of the fathers today.
PS - My kids are fricking amazing. Literally amazing. Every other kid is a disrespectful brat that has the worst table manners you can imagine. Every time we go anywhere, my wife and I are told how great our kids are.
PSS - My kids are as happy as humanly possible. Being strict and having structure is what kids need.

Horribly negative physical abuse from my mother and one of my 3 step fathers.
I’ve attempted to address it and she has a hard time seeing any problems.
Her lack of acknowledgement has caused a lot of resentments towards her, 25+ years removed from the situation and I can still get physically angry and emotional over the situation.
I have little to no relationship with my mother because of this

same with my dad.
we text and all that but he has yet to admit he was a drunken a-hole who abused his kids and wife.
makes it a little hard to be normal around him when he is telling himself and others around him things that aren't true. He's created his own story and image and it's all a crock of shite. And it wasn't just physical. Hell, mostly emotional.
he once told me to "change my last name or kill myself".

Never got a whooping from my parents I didn't deserve.

Same with my dad.
My mom doesn't understand why saying "I wish you were never born" had a negative impact on my life and my relationship with her.
I hope and pray (and I think I have) that I've learned from my parents parenting mistakes.

My brothers and I got the belt many times, and compared the welts. If my sons had done half the shite my brothers and I did, they would probably have gotten whipped a time or two. Never laid a hand on either one of my sons and they were much better teens than me. In my mother’s defense, she raised six of us by herself, and did the best she could, God rest her soul.

Throughout elementary school, I probably got a couple of whippings a week with a belt. Sometimes more than one a day. I would laugh at my mom when she whipped me. That always meant I get another whipping from my dad when he got home. How's that for toxic masculinity?
I was a bad boy. Don't think I ever got one I didn't deserve. My parents never whipped me in public. Always got a whipping anytime either parent told me I would. If we were away from the house. all they had to do was tell me I was going to get a whipping when we got home, and I'd be an angel the rest of the day. Even though I always got a whipping, I still thought I might not get one if I behaved well from that point on. It never worked.
Got paddled at school through junior high, for everything from talking in class to not doing homework.
Taught me there are consequences for my actions.

no, I was a good kid who almost never broke the rules. Got yelled at a few times for stupid shite. Beating kids is old school, unless you find them stealing or smoking dope.

Kids these days will never know the meaning of "you want to cut your own switch" and how it could instantly stop you from being an a-hole.
Back in my day if you acted up at school you had two options.
1. let a teacher beat the shite out of you with a board
2. take a suspension and then your family beat you with a switch.
Seems kids back then rarely acted like screaming primates. Take from it what you will.

My dad punched me in the face 3 or 4 times as I was growing up. One time we were eating dinner and he just hauled off and punched me because he said I had dirt under one of my finger nails.
The physical abuse was nothing compared to the emotional abuse. The man was a piece of shite and never should have had a kid. Horrible person in every aspect of his life.

I've talked about it with both of my parents several times after I was grown. When my dad said my brother was rough with his kids for yelling at them, I said, "Well if that's not the pot calling the kettle black."
He said, "I know I was rough on ya'll", and looked like it really bothered him.
Since then, I've picked at him about it. He and I are close, and always have been. I never had a problem with him whipping me. I knew his dad had done it to his boys. I had two bothers, and he whipped all of us when we misbehaved. The next day he'd take us fishing or to a ballgame. We'd get along great until one, or all, of us screwed up. I was scared of him until I was grown, but I always respected him.

My parents never touched me and I'll never touch my kids.
I'm glad for it.

Whipped hard enough to leave welps. Yes. Beaten constantly by sibling, yes. Did it affect my life. Yes. Not the beating by the parent.

Got arse whippings and I can remember them today. Several were award winners. I earned every one.
