Which continental Euro country was able to repel the Germans? None I can think of, if Germany wanted it, they took it. The English Channel was the UK's savior.

This thread will send out the bat signal to Darth.

This is actually false.

Damn fine move and an even better book.
An even better PC game. This was one of my favorite games as a kid.

They did put up a short fight, but to say they gave the German's hell and killed a lot of Nazi's may be a bit of a stretch. Germany invaded on May 10th and had the whole campaign wrapped up before June ended. Germany had 160K casualties, 27k dead. France had 2.2M casualties, 360K dead.
Battle fatigue and putting all of their eggs into the maginot line basket kinda fricked France.

I never was into PC games so I didn't even know this game existed. I'm curious now.

The US, in contrast, has been the best for about 110 years.
There is a legit argument that the German army was better in WWI than anyone else’s. WWII saw our true industrial might so I think we have been the best for 80 years

I’m actually if the opinion that, all things being equal, the German WWI army is the arguably greatest army of all time. Nazi’s had technological superiority, but the fighting power and leadership of the German WWI army was superior to the Nazi era army.

Dan Carlin fan? I'm working my way through Blueprint for Armageddon and just got to the portion where Carlin lays out his case for this.
I would agree with you btw

Pretty sure he did an Addendum episode on it too

DC is the man. I’ve listened to Blueprint far too many times now lol. Still not as much as Wrath of the Khans though

I have this lined up next. I have listened to Ghosts of the Ostfront and King of Kings so far. Big fan.
ETA: Forgot to add Supernova, which is ongoing, and Death Throes of the Republic

Going to have to look that up. The extended wait times between Supernova in the East episodes is killing me, although I'm ok with him taking as long as he needs. The end product is always worth it, and there is just an enormous amount of material to cover in the Pacific war.

Indeed.
Besides sticking a huge chunk of forces in the Maginot, the French lost for two reasons:
- Type and volume of airpower
- Deployment of armor
It really boils down to the fact that the Germans had experience in Spain and Poland, and the French did not. In the new form of combined arms, they were able to test and tinker before taking on the big dogs.

Those are pretty much all of the best series he has. I aenjoyed the Punic Nightmare as well, but you can tell it’s an earlier one.
I also can’t recommend Prophets of Doom enough in terms of a blitz episode. Probably my favorite single episode he has....even though it’s still like 5 hours long lol

I haven't dove into the blitz episodes/addendum's yet, sounds like I will soon though. Covid has cut down on my commuting so I'm not burning through episodes like I used to.
