re: Were the French the weakest group of people in modern history?

In WW1, France defended their homeland like lions and took casualties that would've made modern day Americans lose their minds. They lost two million people in that war, more than the US has lost in all its wars combined.

There was also Joan of Arc.
So France does just fine if it isn't led by a Frenchman.

WW2 rolled around and the French maintained a strictly defensive position they thought was impregnable. They were not ready for the blitzkreig offensive style and how Germany utilized their Panzer divisions. Tanks were mainly infantry support prior to this. Germany used their far superior mobile tanks as a unit in and of themselves. Swept around the Maginot line and laid waste.
People quickly forget about the fact that the British were there supporting the French against the German invasion. Once the Brits realized the wehrmacht was not fricking around, they promptly retreated to their island.
For all of the credit Russia (rightly) gets for the outcome of WW2, I think a case can be made that the English Channel itself played just as big of a role. Were Britain not an island, Germany would have rolled over them just as easily as everyone else. Use your imagination from there.
This also isn't to suggest that the Brits weren't brave, it's just a fact that the Nazis were on some next level shite at the beginning of WW2 and no one had an answer for it.

Other than during the days of Napoleon, are the French historically the world’s biggest pussies?
The French were the greatest army in Europe for much longer than the Napoleonic era. Napoleon used the National guard as a phalanx. They marched - usually uphill - into ranks of infantry firing rifles at them. They could not fire back for the most part. It was very rough stuff. They were not pussies, that's for sure. But before Napoleon, the French Royal Army was the best in the world for most of 150 years.
The French were the best army in the world for about 180 years. The US, in contrast, has been the best for about 110 years.

The trend in calling the French weak was a fad back when they didn’t sign up for the war in Iraq and I thought most people by now have gotten over that and this idea had dissipated but I guess some Freedom Fries dolts are still hanging around.
That, and we came to their aid in both world wars.

Americans would pass out at the death toll the French took fighting. They kept dying and simply kept fighting
Modern Americans? Sure. But Americans of that time were even less sensitive to casualties then the French.

they pretty much invented oral sex which is practically a show of weakness
I have no evidence besides common sense, but I've seen dogs have oral sex, so I bet humans invented it way before the French people existed.

Hitler could have easily taken Britain
He let the British Expeditionary Force retreat from Dunkirk as a sign of good will as a sort of “stay out of it” warning. Many British did not want war until Churchill became PM and convinced them that Germany would eventually come for them again and they needed to join the counter offense. Which they did. And was the right choice.
Hitler has them on the ropes and let them go back to their corner and thought they’d concede. They didn’t. And tapped America for support.

My wifes grandfather would say so. He told it over and over. “Had it not been for us, the french would be goose steppin right now”. Said we pushed the Germans back to Paris for the french and then allowed the french to get a participation trophy and take back paris “on their own” ha

That’s really damn impressive for a country as young as the US to have that many victories.
ETA
And also pretty damn confusing for a nation founded on no European entanglements.

The partisans who made up the French Underground were straight savages. True that most Frenchmen basically kept their mouth shut and waited for someone else to liberate them.
But thousands went straight Wolverines on the Germans.
Would make for an awesome movie.

Their leadership during the war (and between the wars) was very weak. The actual French fighting man acquitted himself well.
Put it this way, if the rank and files of the respective armies stayed the same; but you switched the French and German leadership, French soldiers would have been in Berlin in 6 weeks.
