You should have no problem selling your house for a nice profit.

That's the crazy thing.

People talk smack about small towns, but places like St. Francisville/New Roads, Abbeville, or Thibodeaux are nice places to grow up (especially if you can pay private school tuition). They haven't been totally consumed by suburban sprawl yet and they all still feel like a small town.

I would not say they are nice places to grow up. I grew up in a town of that size 50 years ago when small town living was much better than now. Don't go thinking it's so much better for kids. The lack of activities is a serious problem. When you don't have enough things for kids to do, they will find things you don't want them to do. Drugs are at least as prevalent in small towns as large. It's just as easy for kids to sneak around. Just don't think small town living will solve all problems.

live in Mandeville's school district and send my kids to private school. Public school is still public school.

If the school district was good, you wouldn't need to send your kids to private school.

Louisiana feels like you're going back in time 20 years

More like 30 odd years when there was a crack and murder epidemic. Back then getting tougher on crime was widely supported by African American leaders.

God save those communities now. Their leadership are safely moved away from the severe crime and seem indifferent to the death and mayhem of the poorest.

There it is. Took a few minutes but it was bound to show up. There isn’t one good area in Louisiana to raise a family……total shite show…. EVERYTHING IS BETTER ANYWHERE ELSE!!! Amirite?

If you’re going through the hassle of moving then yes you should seek the best possible location, which i hate to burst your bubble, is not in Louisiana.

Are there areas where you can make it work bc of a trade off of family there to help or an entrenched high paying job that doesn’t move? Sure people make trade offs for those reasons and deal with the bullshite.

In a vacuum however no, nowhere in Louisiana is an ideal place to raise a family.

Put me down as this as well

Best / worst city in the world in so many ways

Avoidance strategy now in full play if/until real leadership emerges. Not holding breath.

This! And so many of the public schools are barely acceptable. They are not good. Yes, you can find pockets of better than average. But still not excellent. Same goes with business environment and economy. In almost every thing you look at, Louisiana measures near the bottom., I can be not that far from my folks and not suffer through the mediocrity or worse, that is Louisiana.

Mandeville schools are affluent and white. The guy you responded to is just right.

It couldn't be that someone is able to afford private school and would prefer to send their kid to the best available option. Nah, racism is always the answer

Gretna real estate going brrrrrr. 5 minutes from superdome and almost zero crime. GPD will hunt you down during the commission of a crime. Criminals have no chance in Gretna.

It is...Pineville is a good town...

Now Ellic on the other hand...

Is underwater...
Has the most expensive housing...
Has no land for sale...
Has no great industry (Crest, P&G, Casino, etc all across the river)...
Has so much crime that Podcasters have a different topic every week for all the chicks that dig that stuff...
Can't get along with each other...
Doesn't have a decent gas station...

Pineville has both the "good chevron" and the good "Ynot stop"

So whether it’s school, government, nonprofits, churches etc, some sort of intervention needs to be provided for these at-risk kids before they accept crime as their only means of survival.

Perhaps politicians could also stop manifesting a bullshite "you have no chance because white people" narrative, black culture could change from glorifying the hood, bling, and crime to valuing education and hard work and wanting to follow in the footsteps of successful black businessmen (as opposed to gangsters and rappers), black men and women could take responsibility for the kids they create and stop having so many so young and out of wedlock. The only way it will ever change is if black people themselves decide to change. You cannot "free stuff" them into success or a broken cycle.

Asians and Indians (dot) are a minority in this country as well. What do they do differently that make them so successful?

It is bad...real bad

I've significant time in
Alaska
California
Texas
Georgia
NC
Virginia
North Dakota
Utah
Arizona

And only California is more corrupt, but even they have great weather and tons of stuff to do.

When you leave the state it's the small stuff that's noticeable that they just don't tolerate in other states...

Potholes
No shoulders on state roads
Allowing schools to get consumed by the blight
Heck, just the blight
High taxes with NO PLAN
The state has no "gem" where people take their families on a spring or fall weekend (used to be NO, not anymore)
Separate bike lanes

Etc.

I never experience traffic living on the approach

Near the East Approach myself. Unless Im going to Home Depot in Convington, I rarely have a reason to go above I12 and I have everything I need in East Mandeville. Hwy 22 is a shitshow at times but hardly ever have to go there. I have 4 major grocery options, gym, shite ton of restaurants, kids' schools, other necessities, and the lakefront within 5-10 minutes. Traffic in JP was far worse for me.
If you move to the right spot, Mandeville traffic is not bad at all.

I really don’t know who she voted for but I really don’t think it mattered because the alternative was bad do.

New Orleans has found itself mired in a case of “least worst” alternatives when it comes to mayor and even council at this point.

People think Helena Moreno is going to be a difference are sorely mistaken. She’s a virtue show off and is only out for her political skin. She is likely to make some of the more overt changes simply to prove her liberal mettle.

The only thing going for her is that she’s nice to look at.
