Yeah. People moving out of Louisiana are fricking up real estate in coastal Mississippi too.

We’re going to keep it and rent it out. Might as well get something out of it moving forward.

Your property taxes are going to go up. Right off the bat from not being able to claim a homestead exemption anymore. Not including whatever tax increases they push

Insurance is going up as a result of all the hurricanes and FEMA is raising the costs on flood insurance.

After how landlords got fricked by eviction moratoriums for covid, do you really want to own a rental in a city with "progressive" leadership that's been on a 2 year power trip with covid restrictions and emergency powers?

Are you going to manage the property yourself? Finding and screening tenants, collecting rent, dealing with maintenance issues, having to go to the courthouse to file evictions if they aren't paying? Or are you going to hire a property manager that'll take around a 10% cut of your monthly rent for dealing with those headaches? If you're moving outside the metro area, then you almost have to have a property manager.

Real estate market is at all time highs right now, but probably isn't going to stay there once the multiple interest rate hikes that were promised for this year happen. I'd sell and cash out while the market is hot.

You would think by now JBE would step in and...wait, he has his own problems on the other side of the state.
Yeah, I agree, time to move on. New Orleans is a lost cause with a total failure of leadership from the mayor on down. Even law enforcement doesn't give a shite anymore.

So what you are saying is that Cen La wouldn't be a better place to raise a family in NOLA.

That retarded sir.

I've lived Uptown by Tulane and Loyola.

I've lived in Lakeview.

I've lived in Old Metairie.

Just the peace of mind of knowing that I can walk outside at night without feeling that I have to bring my Glock and have my head on a swivel is worth living in Jefferson Parish.

I don’t think we’ve eliminated any of those, but part of me wants to say frick it and do TX, FL, or TN.

East TN has been great to us so far... the biggest drawback is probably distance to home (BR area) but family comes here a lot as well. There are a lot of jobs, no state income tax, great natural scenery, four seasons, and other than a few spots in Knoxville the schools are great.

That’s the thing….it’s not going to happen on its own. The cycle has to broken via intervention from an outside source, because it’s not going to happen within these families without help. More often than not, a young boy that is raised in poverty by one fricked up parent or relative with zero mentoring from any responsible adult is not going to all of a sudden become a responsible kid that turns into a responsible parent.

So whether it’s school, government, nonprofits, churches etc, some sort of intervention needs to be provided for these at-risk kids before they accept crime as their only means of survival.

Have you talked to La Toya or Jason before you made this decision? I am sure they'd be able to help you.

Man, I can’t imagine living with NorthShore traffic now. I spent a ton of time in Mandeville before Katrina & it kinda sucked then.
As long as you don’t live west of Francos or north of I-12 traffic doesn’t exist. I never experience traffic living on the approach

Here in S. FL you are pretty much stuck. Real estate has gotten so expensive that moving out is not affordable anymore, unless moving out of state. A 3/2 townhouse in a decent neighborhood goes for at least $2600 a month rent. A house prob. $3000 up to $5000.

It’s absolutely crazy. Moved into a new house in oct 2020. A house that needs to be gutted same sq footage just went under contract for $300k more than we paid.

Downtown West Palm condos are even crazier.

This is 100% accurate. Dump it now before it collapses in Orleans. It’s crazy…shocking is a better word for it seeing everyone moving to the Northshore from Orleans Parish right now. As soon as something nice comes on the market in Beau Chene, Tchefuncte, Money Hill the property is sold within hours and the buyer is from Orleans Parish.

100%! I grew up in N. La and lived in Shreveport in the 80s. Moved to Texas in the 90s. Went back and lived in Lafayette for about 2 years a few years ago. I quickly got back to Texas. Louisiana feels like you're going back in time 20 years in all the bad ways, combined with being in the present in all the bad ways as well. My Houston suburb is so much safer, nicer. It was a better place for my kids to grow up and a better place for them to find employment. Like lots of people, I don't even live that far from my work and don't deal with traffic issues. Neither do my adult children. I also have access to all the world class things that come with being in a city.

Good idea. Let the over priced housing market pass so you can sell when the NOLA market crashes.
