Sorry man you would have found out one way or another. I'm hoping people quit replying to this thread so I don't have to talk about it anymore.
I was about to put a down payment on a boat until I found out about this.

Which is good news when you think about it because you'd have no way to tow it.

enad, not saying you are an idiot but the 3,000 mile oil change is a myth. I change my filter every 5k and oil every 10-12k. I send it off every 2nd or third to get analyzed. I'm like the most anal person about engine maintenance. My engine is always cleaner than my vehicles.
I'm actually bummed this Tacoma is so reliable. I used to have a monthly repair on my old Ram. Then the filter is under the hood by the fan shroud. I mean, why isn't every car like that? I could change the filter faster than I can add windshield fluid.
Oil viscosity does not begin to breakdown at normal operating temps until about 6-7k miles. the 3k change was started by oil companies. I do use Royal Purple though.(and OEM filters)

No. We did it all. Not dumb enough to just throw a chain on there.

I agree with the oil breakdown. That wasn't my comment. It's all about suspending contaminants. If you take short drives in hot weather and/or have coolant leaking or some other dusty environment issue, synthetic oil will do nothing to hinder engine wear. Any coolant in the system will wear ring rapidly. Changing oil sooner rather than later can only improve engine life.

dude this has absolutely nothing to do with my oil change intervals
I never suggested it did. My comment was made in view of what others had posted. But, the fact remains you did your engine no favors by changing at 7K.

I like it on my 2017 Escape.
