I've talked to national and regional Ford reps. Told me to keep the receipts incase Ford ever decides this is their problem.

It is a common problem that dates back to their Mazda days. The CX7 had similar issues. I have been a big critic of turbo engines in pickups. I think they are beautiful trucks, but go with the V8.

Description of the issue. It is not to be confused with the carbon build up or the throttle body issues they are seeing with the turbo V6 Fords.

I average 15.4 mpg with my EcoBoost. It is never loaded with weight either.

I just rolled 70k miles, you saying I should trade it?

Edit: What does the noise sound like?

Really outside of this issue, it's performed pretty great pulling a 4k lb trailer for work every day for the last 4ish months.

Well, a shite ton of Ford owners are seeing the issue after 50K-100K miles and it costs about $4000 to repair.

Maybe buy the extended warranty at the very least.

I've never seen a turbo charged gas engine that held up on the long term.

No, but be aware of the issue before it becomes a burden on you. You're still covered under warranty for it I think.

You're complaining because your engine worked well for over 100k miles

You realize this isn't 1970 right? Most truck motors in GM and Toyota gas burners are getting 200k+ without issue. This is just another testament to Ford's "superior" technology. Ram and Ford fanbois should just work out a deal where at 100k one of them gets the Ford tranny to go with the Ram motor and then they burn the one with the Ford motor and Ram tranny.

I wouldn't say a shite ton, and most of them are in 11-12 models. You just read about them because problems become more vocal.

Not to sound like a redneck, but there is replacement for displacement. A 3.5L V6 turbo is only temporarily more more powerful than a 4.6L, 5.0L, 5.3L, or 5.7L V8.

If you must have a Ford, get the 5.0L.

Mobil synthetic every 7k

Using synthetic oil doesn't mean you can double or triple oil change mileage. If your vehicle is only driven short round trips, you should still change it every 3000 miles. I wouldn't push an oil change past 5,000 under any favorable condition.

I must have the same noise.

I haven't diagnosed it but I have noticed a few seconds of odd noise at cold startup.

It never lasts long so I've always ignored it

I'm planning on trading mine in soon anyway

This Ford Tech guy is saying that it's pretty big, and Ford has known about it for a while. It takes a lot of work to repair.

Really? I'm super impressed with the performance of it, just obviously as of a couple days ago, not the longevity. It's fast as hell with great acceleration, incredible low end torque, quiet, etc. This just fricks it up for me though

Blasphemy! Ford torture tested the ecoboost in the Baja 1000, its invincible!

And it has "eco" in the name so you know it gets great mpg's and is good for the environment!!

Gas mileage was worse than a V8 yet the power wasn't immediately available. Worst of both world.
