Always said I would get the 5.0 in a ford.
Ford finally makes a decent engine (5.0) and for some reason they seem content on phasing it out in favor of a turbocharged V6 that has some durability issues.

Thanks Obama.

TSB says its 19hrs of labor to fix. I've checked with private shops but this seems like something I would rather a certified Ford tech work on. I'll keep researching.
If it's not in warranty, why would he pay more to let a Ford dealer profit from this?

You're complaining because your engine worked well for over 100k miles
I have two jeeps with over 200k on the engines, still going strong (did have to rebuild a transmission). We had a Highlander with over 250k when we sold it and only did routine maintenance. So yes, with the advancement of lubricants and engine technology, any engine that is properly maintained that fails under 200k is a huge disappointment.

It has been an absolute stud of a motor, but it's shite if I can't get to 100K without having to tear it apart.

I know that is tongue in cheek, but you are correct. They sacrifice quality and cost to build something more fuel efficient. CAFE regs are a big part of why vehicles are so expensive these days and why they come with 9 and 10 speed transmissions, expensive materials, and small displacement turbo engines that shut off every time you stop.

They can warranty parts and such if it ever fails again and they have seen and fixed this issue a bunch which no other 3rd party shop has.

Says not Ecoboost owner ever. About 1mpg better than the V8

It says 8.9 actually. Sounds like your dealer is trying to hose you. TSB 14-0194

Not what the buyer says or wants. It's what CAFE credit the company is given for that extra MPG (in EPA testing...not real world) over hundreds of thousands of trucks.

You're right, I misread. Thats the wrong one though. New one is 15-0131. Says 9hrs not 19.

At a little over 100K, I get the timing chain rattle at cold startup that FORD has acknowledged for years but won't fix outside of warranty
Try calling their corporate hotline. They might help you out with costs if you agree to buy an extended warranty or something.
These are very common problems with Fords. Sometimes they help people out. Sometimes they don't.
