Its crawfish for me. Every time that I see a plate or picture of boiled crawfish, I think about my older brother.
On a beautiful sunny day in April 2015 I text my brother to ride by because i was boiling crawfish.
He ran off the side of the road on his motorcycle 3 miles from my hose and was killed.
Anyone else have something similar that reminds them of someone?

Vending machines. Mom and I spent a lot of time at MD Anderson the year before she died and we had our favorite vending machines.

I just had a dream about a buddy who died two weeks ago. Very weird because i think it’s the first time I ever dreamed about him.
But to answer your question yes. Things remind me of my mom all the time. Food/music/places.

Basketballs or tennis balls.
My grandma would play basketball with us for hours in her back yard. She was ridiculously athletic for a 70 year old woman. Alzheimer's changed that quickly. When she was non verbal and in a wheelchair you could throw a tennis ball past/to her and she'd catch it 100% of the time. It didn't matter how much heat you put on it. She'd get this shite eating grin when she'd catch it.

I got back from taking the ACT 30 years ago when I found out my great aunt who was more like a second mother had died. Everytime I hear of the ACT I think of her. Shortly after, I had a dream that where I talked to her ghost and I asked her what it was like to be dead. She said it was cold.

I catch a smell of my Granny's perfume every once in a while and also have a recurring dream where she clearly tells me that everything will be ok.

Smells are extremely powerful for the brain.

The song Mr Bojangles always reminds me of my pup who i had to put down a while back
‘He spoke thru tears, of 15 years
How his dog and him, traveled about
The dog up and died, he up and died
After 20 years he still grieves ‘

The sound of a crow. It brings me back to those deer stands when I was about 7 or 8, and my dad so badly wanted to experience me landing my first deer. You don't recognize a fathers love as much until you become one yourself. It's powerful. Look forward to hunting with him again down the road.

About two weeks after my great uncle died, I had a dream where I was eating at some fancy restaurant. My uncle was eating at another table across the room. Throughout the dream, I kept looking his way, trying to figure out who he was eating with. Eventually, he looked right at me, gave me a little wink with his right eye, and went back to conversation at his table. I woke up with a big smile on my face that morning. Miss ya, Uncle Buddy.

Every spring when the azaleas start blooming, I think of my grandmother. She was partially blind and loved the large areas of colors the azaleas provided. I miss her.

Grandma story 1: Cat sitting on a car trunk.
My grandmother was visiting our house and had opened the trunk of her car. She went in the house to whatever she was putting in the trunk. She didn't notice that one of the cats had climbed in. The cat went on a 20 mile car ride in the trunk. When my grandma got home and opened the trunk, the cat jumped out and almost sent her to heaven that day. I still laugh when I think about her telling the story.
Grandma story #2: Big black purse.
We had a large white German Shepherd when I was a teenager who was very protective. He would greet my grandma outside in a friendly but pushy manner when she was getting out of her car. He finally knocked her over one visit, didn't hurt her just scared her. She put a brick in that big black purse she used to carry and on her next visit, she clocked that dog in the head. He never bothered her again.

Those little lizards that run around all over south Louisiana.
My older brother was so put off by these that as a kid a strategically placed blade of grass resembling a lizard's tail in your fist could run him all over the neighborhood. I never understood this because nothing else spooked him that way. He would catch a snake with his bare hands. Spiders, bugs, rodents, none of those bothered him.
Every time I see one of those lizards in the house or outdoors I think of him.

My Paw Paw was a master carpenter and he taught me a lot about woodworking. And about life.
Every time I smell sawdust I swear he's there with me.

my cousin and best friend died in a private plane crash; before that my other cousin and best friend died in a plane crash.
every time I pass tacos and beer in Hammond I think of Ross, it was the place we ate together a few times a month. Every time I pass berryland RV in Hammond I think of wade, his place was right down the street from there.
when I was living in mandeville I often thought about how cool it would be to live in the same place as those two guys. Now I live in that place and they are both gone

My Grandmother: Rose Gardens, Tulips and Tiger Lilies. She was always pruning her roses early in the mornings at the crack of dawn and afterwards would prepare homemade cat head biscuits with gravy, bacon and scrambled eggs. When you stayed durung the summer with her, she would put you to work outside, but always fed me good.
My Grandfather: VW bugs and bream fishing. He would always bring a couple of fishing poles and red worms to my baseball games growing up and after the game, he would always want to go to a couple of his private ponds to bream fish and also nip on the bourbon. He would always fish in a lawn chair with a bottle of bourbon in a brown paper sack in his lap. Wish I could go back and ask about more stories. I remember several, but wished I would of asked more questions. He passed away my Sr year of high school. My Grandmother passed the year before. He died within a year after her of a broken heart imo. Met in 9th grade and were married 65 years.
