How big of a faux pas thing is this to do?

New Year’s Eve event will be a general mix, but a ton of people will be in tuxedos. Some will be dressed down more. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone in regular suits though.

I brought a blue suit just so I can be somewhat presentable but honestly, I’m not sure what’s acceptable. One other person I’m going with brought just a suit and my male family member going is wearing just a nice button down and vest.

I’d put it pretty low on the worry list. You’re fine.

You’ll be fine, but my grandmother always told me, when black tie is optional, opt for it.

Is it a work function of sorts? If not, just have fun. It's not like it is a ritzy black tie 200 dollar a plate type thing.

Someone wearing a tuxedo to a BBQ doesn’t make everyone else under dressed. What kind of event is it? Was a dress code given?

If it's what I'm imagining, you'll see people in khakis and their best Gap button down puking in the bathroom. So I wouldn't worry.

Ask your boyfriend. I’m sure he would know.

You’re going to feel like everyone is looking at you.

And they will. Snickering behind your back. As they judge you.

They’ll think you’re the idiot cousin that had to be invited.

Social Capital at this function = 0.

Either wear a Tux or Boots and Jeans with a nice white button down.

Don't try to split the difference it will look like you're trying too hard.

Either over dress (Tux) or don't give a frick (boots and jeans). If you go boots and jeans wear a freaking cowboy hat so they know you don't care.

I didn’t bring a tuxedo because I don’t have one and I’m not going to rent one for $200 for a New Year’s Eve party.

This is not a work function. it Is an exclusive network of people though and not the place to act a fool.

Think a Great Gastby like party as they come.

Brown or black shoes?

Wear a bow tie to take the attention off your lack of a tux.

You are wearing the suit regardless, you only brought it up here to brag that you are going to a fancy party with "important" people and I assure you, if we can see through you from here, the important people will too.

Then I suggest you go rent a damn tux so you don’t look like a fool
