It will be dark prob and everyone will be out of their coats early. This is how that shite goes. Just wear a darker tie and go have fun

dude you are seriously worked up about people being under dressed

While I'm generally opposed to the casualization of society, I don't get worked up about it. What I do get mildly worked up over are people who brag about being under-dressed, again, as though it's a virtue.

Nothing to do with OP. I was simply musing.

But one of your friends is going to dress like an 8th grader at a back to school dance with a vest & button up shirt? Wtf

You’ll be fine, but my grandmother always told me, when black tie is optional, opt for it.

I agree with this. But I went to a black tie optional evening event in New Orleans recently and I was one of no more than 10 people wearing tuxedos.

OP will be fine.

Either wear a Tux or Boots and Jeans with a nice white button down.

Don't try to split the difference it will look like you're trying too hard.

Either over dress (Tux) or don't give a frick (boots and jeans). If you go boots and jeans wear a freaking cowboy hat so they know you don't care

Crocs and jorts baw.

Well damn, now I’m questioning my NYE choice.

Big party in a nice hotel
Invitation says semi-formal
My favorite suit is a lighter navy
French cuffed white shirt
Gold tie and pocket square (my date’s dress is gold)
Well buffed black shoes.

Thoughts?

I didn’t bring a tuxedo because I don’t have one and I’m not going to rent one for $200 for a New Year’s Eve party.

You trolling? You’re hanging with an exclusive Great Gatsby crowd, but you’re concerned about the expense of a tux? Dafuq?

Then this isn’t a black tie event.

I went to a black tie event once in my life a few weeks back. After blowing $400 on a tux and nearly that on the tickets, half the frickers were in suits and the open bar was bottom barrel call brands. (Jim Bean, Sky, etc) I felt played.

Henry Shane, u cheap. lol

You’re in the Nola area right. Next time you need a tux rent one from Perlis, only $109 with shoes.

$400 isn’t bad

I wanted to buy one but it would have cost around $1000 at men’s warehouse. I wear a tux about once a year, paying $109 at Perlis is well worth it.

fricking A, people are grouchy.

I never got an invitation. We do have a sponsor to attend. I’ve attended off and on since I was in high school.

My whole family has gone twice and will this year.

In the past, I’ve always been more on the causal side. This year, I feel like dressing nicer but for the life of me, i always remember about 1/3 of people in tuxedos. It’s always been slightly hazy though because drunk.

I went back and checked pictures of past events and there are people wearing suits too as well as some more dressed down.

My dad will not wear a suit. He hates them with a passion after having to wear them to work for years. And he generally refuses to wear one for any social function.

I hope that somewhat calms people down.

Damn people get angry way too quickly.
