We are too lenient on gateway crimes like graffiti, littering, etc.

You can see the descent happen in the cities that are permissive.
King weagle1999? A ball peen hammer strike on the outstretched hand for a person caught tagging a wall or train car or anything. And so on.

I wouldn't mind forcing them to clean it up if caught.

This might not be that effective. Forcing someone to put fruits and vegetables in jars, then adding vinegar and sealing it with a lid, would get really boring over time. But as a crime deterrent? Nah.

In high school I got caught scratching my name into a table full of scratched names, in the Pecanland mall court yard deal waiting to go into El Chico's. Me and another bro got ripped out of our seat, cuffed and stuffed, and sent to mall jail. They called our parents since we were under 18. We had to do 30 hours of "community service" in the mall to pay our penance. That began and ended my criminal career, so maybe you're on to something. ..

Like forcing them to make pickles and jams and such?

Can we add "giving Narcan to junkies" as another practice that needs to stop?

My bad it’s “caning”.
Thank you for pointing my mistake out as it has had a positive impact on my spelling.

I heard them Japanese folks look at littering like a crime against humanity so that's why there's no litter there because it's against their culcha and shite

Agreed. This is the one thing they get right in the Middle East. If you litter, pour paint down a storm drain, deface property, tailgate a moving vehicle, we don’t need a fine or a criminal charge.
We need your anti social tendencies need to be suppressed by violence against your body and then for everyone to move on with their lives.

El Chico’s was across from Piccadilly right? I don’t remember a “court yard deal”. Inside or outside of the mall? Just curious.

Should be the crime for littering as well.

You get what you tolerate.

Broken Windows Theory
The broken windows theory states that visible signs of disorder and petty crime create an environment that encourages more serious crimes.
It’s what democrats want.

Jail or a flogging. Give them a choice.

I wonder how many people have been ticketed for littering in the last year.
Same with traffic violations and blight.

At the mall entrance where El Chicos was there were tables in the courtyard (or whatever you call it). May have been Piccadilly on the other side at that time, or it could have been gone. This was 94ish. Regardless, there were tables at that entrance that kids scrawled upon. The fuzz took exception to me and my Old Timer.
