Think about it, if (and I mean if) it was even remotely possible, think about having to go through the mountains. That, in addition to all of the other problems that we have listed, is the biggest pipe dream (pun intended) we have heard.

Laugh of the day.

600 mile pipeline from San Diego with a desalination plant attached.

Lake Mead is only a couple hundred of miles away from San Diego. That would be as far as it would have to go. But most of the water would/could be used more locally in California. Cali's allotment of the River is about 25%.

Look at how the West is fighting over Colorado river water now. Do we really want to be fighting over River water with those people in 30 years?

They need to figure it out with what they have. Mainly, the Pacific Ocean.

Why would we care? This is only 8% of the Mississippi’s flow, and it would be for less than one year. After that it would be far less. This water would otherwise just be disgorged into the ocean

Sounds exactly like the conversation they had about the Colorado River 50 or so years ago. Now look at them.

In theory with the amount of sunlight you could build a massive reverse osmosis plant and pumps with a pipeline powered off of solar

It would just be billions and billions of dollars

and if this ridiculous plan every actually came to fruition, they would be bitching to high heaven about how dirty their lake is compared to its pristine water now.

The solids would either need to be removed prior or there would need to be some kind of assurance program to maintain velocities to prevent solids settling in these massive pipes.

Secondarily, there would need to be a good bit of corrosion inhibitors injected into this water as well as biocides to prevent corrosion of these pipes. Unless they make them of concrete.

You have to be trolling. You can’t be that dumb. Within the last decade, at least once, the river levels dropped so low that the Corps had to put in emergency underwater dams to keep the saltwater intrusion from contaminating New Orleans’ drinking water. (Although a good saltwater purge might help things)

FTR I've been saying for years now they will forcibly take the south's water eventually. I mean they'll pay us for it but it'll be forced by the feds and the payments will be determined by the feds as well

Back in the day, I had a professor say that they’d want to do this someday. “Back in the day” was a couple decades ago.

As the worlds population continues to explode with improvements in industrialized farming, improvements in water treatment, and better neonatal care, more and more countries and regions will fight over water access.

Fresh water is a somewhat limited resource and with the invention and spread of a/c, more people are moving to places that are water scarce. Looking at you American Southwest.

They need to start drinking the water left over after sewage is treated. They’ll never run out of drinking water that way.

so what is the real problem? I dont think this is been pointed out. Are the reservoirs losing head because of power generation or because they are dispersing water to the cites? The solution to these 2 issues would be different.

This is a perfect example of liberalism. What they want is for people they hate with a passion to bail them out from bad decisions they have made. And they'll pretend they have no idea why those people they loathe so much aren't tripping over themselves to help them.

If I'm a resident of a state that borders the Mississippi River I'm telling those assholes to frick themselves with a rusty pipe. They have the Pacific ocean, build a desalination plant and use it. fricking arrogant left wing idiots

The pump station they will need to pull this off would have to be almost double the size of the current largest pump station in the world. It has 11-5000 HP diesel engines that can move 145,000 gallons per second, they wanna move 250,000 gallons per second.

Tell Cali to rebuild every pump in N.O. and we might call a meeting to assess their water shortage.

How long did it take to get federal approval for the comite diversion canal?

I came here to say this. 40 years to get Comite Diversion. It'll take 100+ to make this happen and by then they'll start getting rain again...because weather is constantly changing.
